The Aquarium Age: July 8-14

By Ralfee Finn

The need to feel absolutely free collides with an equally resolute need to be in control, and the clash of these diverse tendencies generates a volatile atmosphere. Don’t be surprised if the determination to declare independence fuels more than a few breakouts or breakthroughs. And while this pursuit of happiness is certain to feel satisfying, it’s likely to encounter resistance—a lot of resistance—as those left behind struggle to maintain order. From both a personal and a collective perspective, most of us are bound to experience even more upheaval (as if that’s possible), which makes a commitment to peaceful living even more important, even in the midst of turmoil.

The urge for liberation stems from Uranus (of course), that primary force for freedom from whatever enslaves, as it makes several contacts with other planets. Here’s a list:

(1) The Sun/Uranus square that began this past weekend is exact and separating on July 12. It lasts until July 20. This square feeds the freedom fighter wherever she or he feels the need for liberation.

(2) and (3) Uranus also squares Mars, as Mars closes in on its conjunction to the Sun. Because a Sun/Mars conjunction indicates a strong need to lead, as well as a formidable desire to succeed, when Uranus excites this already powerful combination, the need to move—physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual—becomes impossible to resist.

(4) The Sun/Mars/Uranus square is exact and separating on July 25. This square symbolizes a clash of rhythms and energy sources. Mars represents physical energy—it’s the muscles of the body and therefore emblematic of athletes, as well as ambitious warriors. Uranus represents electric energy—it’s impulses that surge through the body as well as the mind and the heart. When they form a fractious interaction, and that clash is amplified by the power of the Sun, their different energetic signatures tend to disrupt nervous systems.

(5) The Moon sends emotional currents through this entire bundle as it squares the Sun and Mars and conjuncts Uranus today and tomorrow, setting the tone for the rest of the week. Most of us are sure to be more than a little antsy and/or testy under this influence so don’t be surprised if you or someone close to you (or strangers) become “cranky pants” at the slightest infraction.

But that’s not all. As the Mars/Uranus square hits its exact contact, on July 25, several other important interactions aggregate at the same moment. Venus goes retrograde on July 25 and Uranus goes Retrograde on July 26. While I will be more specific about the particulars of these two astral events in the coming weeks, it’s still good to know that there are several forces building to a crescendo.

The good news is that the Venus/Jupiter conjunction, in Leo, continues to provide a generous and benign light to this week and the next several weeks. Use this positive, big-hearted astral combination to enhance all those places in your life that bring you joy. And when your need for happiness is satisfied, share that bounty with others who may not be able to access happiness all that easily.

The Venus/Jupiter conjunction is the perfect antidote to the volatile undercurrents of the next several weeks. But it’s up to each of us to choose which way we want to align with the planets: Under the thumb of angry interactions, which are likely to be mostly fueled by projection and ignorance? Or in sync with the more magnanimous approach of compassion and kindness to our fellow travelers?

There are no individual Sunbursts this week.
