The Aquarium Age: Feb. 12-18

By Ralfee Finn
This week’s retrograde slog—oops, I’m sorry…I meant to write ‘journey’—has surprising moments of clarity embedded into its mostly frustrated and frustrating rhythm. And while those crystal clear moments don’t linger long, they do offer opportunities to make decisions that will move the otherwise stagnant waters of daily life. For those of you who are stuck and thinking that you are caught in a personal version of Groundhog Day, you are. But you don’t have to stay mired in an endless loop of existential angst.

You can break free—you just have to take a lesson from Phil (the Bill Murray character) and figure out how to adjust your attitude so the pattern can shift. (Here’s a hint: You are the agent of change; no one is going to fix the situation but you. And biggest hint of all: Phil learns how to love.) Of course, some of us may not be experiencing the downside of Mercury Retrograde—not everyone suffers from the maladies of a slower pace and painstaking attention to detail. Some fellow travelers actually enjoy the downshift—they feel more control and greater efficiency. And as most of us know by now, Mercury Retrograde is not the devil. It just looks exactly like the devil when the wifi is on the fritz, the modem has a signal but try as you might, there’s no connection, the overnight delivery with the one-of-a-kind something or other is lost, or the express package you needed yesterday was sent to 38th Street instead of 138th Street.  But that’s not what’s really devilish about Mercury Retrograde. The worst: having to sit in a hell zone of delays and detours where absolutely nothing moves.

Two interactions indicate the possibility for these brief but valuable moments of clarity and (if you’re lucky) action. First, Mercury trines Mars, providing the potential for minds to quicken through the skill and dexterity of critical thinking; exciting discussions could rouse the determination to cut through the lethargy and act on good ideas. That positive mental might combines with the physical power of a Sun/Mars trine. Sun/Mars contacts are not traditionally interpreted as indications of intellectual prowess, but they are known to assist in cutting through obstacles, which could encourage positive progress.

Saturn also squares the Sun and that could throw a wrench of hyper-criticism into the mix. But if you refuse to lose yourself in a negative Saturnian perspective and instead chose to align with Saturn’s discerning eye, you can use this potentially difficult interaction to strengthen your determination to make practical choices.

This week, the routines of daily life unfold at a glacial pace, and while that may obstruct certain fundamental tasks—commuting, communicating, and computer co-dependence—sometimes not moving at the speed of light can reveal details and nuances that might otherwise be missed. Of course, many of our fellow travelers are likely to melt down with exasperation, disappointment, and discontent, making kindness and compassion the most important tools in your spiritual kit. So when possible, offer a helping hand to those in need. And be open to accepting a helping hand if you need one.

If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that, too.

Aries March 21-April 19
Extend a helping hand to friends, and they are likely to return in kind. Yes…it’s sometimes difficult to rely on others and trust that they will deliver, but learning how to ask for help is sometimes the most important part of the process.

Taurus April 20-May 20
Work-related issues clarify, but that doesn’t mean the week is hassle-free. Be patient as you sort through the details, and when you feel like throwing in the towel, take a deep breath. As cliché as it sounds, this, too, shall pass.

Gemini May 21-June 21
The key is choosing your words, wisely, and then, being willing to repeat yourself as often as necessary to get your point across without losing your patience. It’s a Herculean task, but if anyone can do, you can. Stay clear about what you want to accomplish and you’ll stay on track.

Cancer June 22-July 22
Challenges abound, and while some of what you are confronting requires a fundamental attitude adjustment, none have the power to rattle your foundation. Here’s the rule: Wherever or whatever you are most resistant to is exactly what needs to change.

Leo July 23-August 22
If you wear your heart on your sleeve, no one will be confused by what you have to say. I’m not suggesting you turn the week into a true confession. I’m simply advising you to be authentic with yourself and others about what you really feel.

Virgo August 23-September 22
Yes…you are required to work hard, and there is a lot to do. The not-so-good news is the feeling of having to do everything yourself. The good news is you have the strength and stamina to achieve your goals.

Libra September 23-October 22
There’s a lot to negotiate, and whether those discussions lead to radical acts is up to you. Be clear about what you need, as well as what you want, even if those desires are at odds with reality. You’re figuring out how to create the solid ground of compromise.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
You’re mulling over lots of issues, trying to decide what the best course of action will be. Spend as much time as necessary reviewing the facts, but be careful not to brood over the outcome. Remember: The universe rearranges itself to accommodate your picture of reality.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
Stimulating conversations with friends help to clarify a persistent problem. So even if you don’t like the advice that’s being offered, consider that it just might be good, heartfelt suggestions that when implemented could remedy the situation.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
You’re worried about finances – so what else is new? But there really isn’t anything to worry about. Use this time to reflect on how you could create additional income and/or how to create greater financial order, and you’ll begin to relieve your anxiety.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
You could experience power struggles with authority figures, and while I am not suggesting that you be passive in the midst of confrontation, assuming a conciliatory stance will help you to advance your cause.

Pisces February 19-March 20
You are in the midst of several profound transformational processes, all of which are disturbing your psychic pond. Stay with your feelings, even if they are uncomfortable, and eventually you will arrive at the truth of what you need to feel grounded and steady.
