The Aquarium Age: Dec. 2-8

By Ralfee Finn

Emotional tides run high this week, making it hard to keep an even keel, and even if you manage to find a safe harbor, by the weekend frustration with bad behavior (yours or others’) is sure to reach a crescendo, making meltdowns (again yours or others’) probable. What elevates this week’s intensity to such high levels is a relationship to the last three Uranus/Pluto squares that occurred on April 21, 2014, December 15, 2014, and March 17, 2015. (There were seven Uranus/Pluto squares that took place between June 2012 and March 2015.) We’re still grappling with the same themes highlighted by those pernicious interactions, and now, as current astrological patterns trigger previous sensitive points, those unresolved issues take on new life.

Expect encounters with people, places, and ideologies that resonate with that time frame. Just be aware… although the themes remain the same and there are many, many similar circumstances, we are not living in the past. We are growing, even if it doesn’t look as if we’re making progress.

A Mars/Uranus opposition turns up the heat this week and next. Often known as the God of War, Mars is currently in Libra, the Sign of relating, a position with the power to rustle up partnership trouble. Mars signifies how we take a stand for ourselves in all aspects of life, and as it moves through Libra, relationship issues dominate the conversation. Its opposition to Uranus is certain to irritate and agitate partnerships in need of a shift. Uranus represents the principle of revolution, and its presence tends to catalyze stagnant patterns that no longer serve. Take a deep breath; this opposition is likely to highlight polarized positions, especially roles that inhibit personal freedom. Take your time with this process, and try to avoid an immediate divorce. Uranus can be impulsive, and also fickle—one moment it’s one way and the next it’s another. Most of you know the Uranus Rule: Wait until the transit is over to seal a deal. Simply notice where and what you want to escape. Or who you’re angry with and why. Then be sure to own your part of the conflict, particularly where you are projecting or where your partner’s projections are so strong you can’t help but act in accordance. Remember, you can always tell when projection has taken over, because the fight feels old, moldy, and familiar.

To make matters worse, Mars and Uranus are also in a square to Pluto, a configuration that dials up the need to be in control and (dare I say it?) the need to win and be right. If you’re digging in, question your motivation, and expect a fairly emotional answer, because if all of the above isn’t enough, the Moon joins this Martian mess on December 5, turning the entire bundle moody. The Moon will move out of this formation fairly quickly—by the next day it moves on. But the tight grip of this Mars/Uranus/Pluto T-square will linger until December 19. So, in addition to the eggnog, keep your patience pills handy. It’s going to take everything we have to stay steady during this phase.

We already know that we live in “interesting” times, times of upheaval and upset, tumult and trouble, times of dissent and resistance. But while these times are hard on the heart and soul, they are also potent with vitality. Uranus/Pluto contacts signify periods of transformative creativity. So, despite the ache from so much violence, there are also plenty of opportunities to heal. Make the most of those moments by refusing to add to the drama.

Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
Focus on nurturing your fellow travelers, whether they are intimate significant others or casual acquaintances. Bring tenderness and care to each situation and you’ll be able to diffuse many, if not all, potential conflicts and confrontations.

Taurus April 20-May 20
Communication is the healing balm you’re looking for, and if you’re willing to talk it through, you’ll find ways to diffuse actual or potential difficulties. You’ll probably need to give up your vision of a specific outcome, but being a peacemaker is its own reward.

Gemini May 21-June 21
Yes…money has a role to play, but the deepest current of the week has to do with confidence, especially when it comes to trusting yourself. Try not to measure your success with a false standard. Be true to yourself, and the means to create your vision will eventually appear.

Cancer June 22-July 22
Be forthright and speak your truth, but don’t expect others to meet all of your demands. The challenge is not to insist until you win; the task before you is to not be intimidated because others don’t agree with your opinion. Believing in yourself will help you find the ground of positive compromise.

Leo July 23-August 22
It’s a mind game and you are playing it with yourself. So please remember the first rule of Extraterrestrial Magic: The universe rearranges itself to accommodate your picture of reality. Train your mind to focus on all that’s working, and even the gnarly bits will find a positive resolution.

Virgo August 23-September 22
Rather than allow the opinions of others to inform your decisions about sharing your gifts, keep your own counsel. Yes, some of what’s being said is valid, but much of the rest is undermining. Be clear about what matters to you and you’ll steer clear of pandering to others’ values.

Libra September 23-October 22
Warning: I’m not suggesting you go into denial about the difficulties in any of your relationships. But if I were you, I would simply focus on work, even if you’re unemployed or retired. Put your time and you’ll fare much better during this phase.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
It’s a question of perspective: Can you embrace a view broad enough to include what you don’t understand and/or can’t control? This is not a trick question and the answer isn’t easy. But if you can breathe before you speak, you’ll find a way to be inclusive—and that will work wonders.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
There is a balance somewhere between standing still and leaping off a cliff. Neither position offers the perfect solution, but attempting to find the midpoint between those two extremes is a valuable process that will open up a variety of choices, any and all of which can provide greater clarity.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
Rather than polarize with partners, personal or professional, spend some time contemplating how you can help them. I’m not suggesting you capitulate to their every capricious whim—that’s not you. But kindness creates allies, and allies create cooperation.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
Right now the secret of your success is the willingness to work hard and do whatever it takes to harness these powerful creative forces and channel them into all the places that need an infusion of vitality. Use these energies wisely and you will produce positive results.

Pisces February 19-March 20
Here’s the perfect solution to the conflict: Get into bed, snuggle under the covers and quilts, and stop trying to fix everything. If you can’t take to your bed, find an equivalent form of self-care. You don’t have to pretend everything is going well; you have to find the time to rest and be well.
