The Aquarium Age: Aug. 14-20

By Ralfee Finn

It’s a week of ideas, and from concepts to theories to visions to plans, big or small, realistic or ridiculous, malleable or chiseled in stone, minds are reaching beyond their limits. The good news is that this mental intensive provides opportunities to access unconventional solutions to persistent mundane problems. The bad news is that this opportunity doesn’t last for long—it’s over by the weekend. Pardon the cliché, but if you snooze, you lose. So dust off those multidimensional beanies, attach the galactic antennae, and prepare to receive messages. Just be sure to filter your brilliant flashes through your common sense.

There are already enough truly crazy ideas being mistaken for truth cluttering the airwaves and we wouldn’t want to add to the mess. Also, try to patient with wacky proposals—plenty of people are going to be suggesting all sorts of schemes. But avoid being smug or dismissive—the sublime could be hidden in the silly.

The source of these brilliant flashes is a Mercury/Uranus trine. Mercury is in Leo, the Sign that symbolizes creative self-expression. Uranus is in Aries, the Sign that symbolizes individuation. Both Leo and Aries are Fire Signs, which are characterized by their dynamic, enthusiastic desire. Mercury represents all the processes of the mind, from memory to visualization, and is, by the way, the only astro action figure that can move between heaven and hell in the blink of the mind’s eye—he is quick and mostly, if not always, fearless. Uranus represents change, and its primary function is to disrupt a stagnant status quo. Trines signify positive interactions, and the combined influence of this duo sparks imagination and ignites creativity.

Jupiter’s ongoing role in the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square continues to dominate daily interactions. Last week, Jupiter opposed Pluto; that opposition was exact and separating on August 7. This week, Jupiter continues its opposition, as it simultaneously moves into a square with Uranus that is exact on August 21. Because Jupiter always signals a surplus, last week’s proclivity toward excess spills over into this week. One way the effect of this opposition can be felt is through issues of safety and security. Jupiter is in Cancer, the Sign of security issues. Pluto is in Capricorn, the sign of the authority—in most cases governments, which in almost every case these days means corporations, banks, and special interests with lots and lots of money. On a personal level, Jupiter’s presence as part of the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square signals power shifts, internal and external, at home or work, or anywhere there is a stagnant imbalance that needs to change.

The exact position of the Jupiter/Pluto opposition on August 7 was 9º 26′ minutes Cancer and Capricorn. The next exact Uranus/Pluto square on November 1 occurs at 9º 26′ Aries and Capricorn. While Jupiter is not a part of the November 1 square, it’s hard to ignore the possibility that what was set in motion on August 7 takes a firmer grip later on. Notice what caused the greatest consternation last week or the greatest excitement, and then see what further developments occur at the end of October or beginning of November. And there’s more. As part of the next Jupiter/Pluto opposition, on January 31, Uranus holds the position of 9º 23’—again, this alignment provides another opportunity to see if there are further related developments. When degrees and minutes line up in this way, I often imagine that planetary interactions work like a huge combination lock and each celestial turn dials up another cosmic click. (It’s what made me love the wheel on Lost.) Here, on Earth, those cosmic adjustments are miniscule and their effect imperceptible until hindsight makes the consequences obvious. I realize the problem with playing astro detective is that so much and too much is happening all the time, which makes it next to impossible to identify the most important themes. Nevertheless, try to limit your choices to key events and/or responses and see if you recognize a pattern.

The Jupiter/Uranus square is exact and separating on August 21. All Jupiter/Uranus combinations are about startling twists of fate, and all week long, many of us are sure to go into a tizzy, as sudden reversals of fortune, positive and negative, alter circumstances, personal as well as collective, reminding us that in the midst of uncertainty, humility is always the wisest stance.

In keeping with surprising plot twists, I’ll be on vacation for the next two weeks.
I hope to see you back here on September 4.
Enjoy the rest of the summer!

If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that, too.

Aries March 21-April 19
Be bold, practical, and really honest with yourself about what’s possible and what isn’t. And then be sure to make choices as well as promises based on what you know you can realistically deliver.

Taurus April 20-May 20
Listen to your intuition, and simultaneously notice where and when your mind wanders–they are closely related activities. You may think you’re rehashing the past, but you’re actually deciding what to finally leave behind.

Gemini May 21-June 21
There are clear indications about what would be the best course of action, but because it’s a radical choice, you’re hesitant to commit. Be practical: Sit down, make a list of all pros and cons, and see which side has the stronger argument.

Cancer June 22-July 22
I don’t know if it would be possible for you to look before you leap—you’re cup of ideas about how to improve your finances runneth over and it just wouldn’t do anyone any good to interrupt that flow.

Leo July 23-August 22
There are several surprising opportunities to put your divinely inspired ideas into concrete plans and projects. Spend this energy wisely and you’ll see positive results.

Virgo August 23-September 22
This simply isn’t time to brood over past encounters, positive or negative. So rather than squandering your dazzling mental might on what could have been, spend it on co-creating the reality you long for.

Libra September 23-October 22
Read Aries, above, but add this: You actually can deliver the goods, which means you must choose wisely where and how you want to spend your inspiration.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
The emphasis continues to be on work and work-related issues. And that’s not a bad thing, given the tremendous support you have in making positive career decisions that will garner positive, tangible results.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
Yes…it is a stretch, but it’s not as uncomfortable as you imagine it to be. Step into a new frame of mind by refusing to participate in a standard approach to any situation, especially one that matters to you.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
While you’re used to being the designated driver, you’re also tired of always being disciplined and buttoned up. Getting flaky isn’t possible, but learning to relax about the outcome, is.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
Heartfelt conversations with significant others reveal several key areas in need of attention. Don’t worry—there’s nothing is wrong. It’s simply important to pay more attention to those you care the most about.

Pisces February 19-March 20
Information about your finances could tilt your world in a new direction, especially if you’ve been in denial or been holding on so tightly, it’s hard to breathe. Either way, it’s time for a positive, conscious shift.
