Aquarium Age

The Aquarium Age: Oct. 25-31

By Ralfee Finn

Here’s the good news: All week long, we’re under the influence of a Sun/Jupiter conjunction, which is about as optimistic a combination of planets as you can find—even when that conjunction takes place in Scorpio. Poor Scorpio…it has such a bad reputation, but the truth is Scorpio’s waters run about as deep as the human soul can fathom—and that’s pretty deep, which is the real reason Scorpio scares people. Scorpio reminds us that there is always something happening beneath the surface of life’s events, and that something usually has to do with unconscious urges that inform complex and often compulsive behavior. I know Scorpio is known for being controlling, manipulative, suspicious, and vengeful, but where I come from, those qualities are survival mechanisms for a sensitive Sign that feels almost too deeply to ever be comfortable. Ruled by Pluto, together Scorpio and Pluto signify change at the core of whatever is being worked on or dealt with—it’s the Sign of transformation and that’s why it symbolizes death. That’s no easy challenge to meet, and in response to that challenge, Scorpio (like all good Fixed Signs) clings to what it knows, and when it is frightened tends to resist the exorable force of change that is its nature. (Yes…I know that’s a deeply philosophical perspective, but…hey…Jupiter is the Planet of existential search, and its conjunction to the Sun enables everyone to wax as expansively as possible.)

Here’s more good news: There are no pernicious interactions this week to color our ongoing collective catharsis with deeper shades of despair. Consider it a slight respite from the constant consequences of suffering that have been breaking on the shores of daily life with ever-increasing intensity. Just don’t be fooled into thinking anything is normal—nothing is and won’t be again for quite some time. What’s more, because Nature abhors a vacuum, the absence of difficulty may provide the perfect opportunity for difficulties that have been waiting in the wings to suddenly make an appearance.

Also be aware that Mr. Trump and his team of rapacious opportunists are working overtime to dismantle whatever compassionate and progressive policies they can—all in their own selfish interests—so don’t let this brief respite from grating astral interactions fool you. No one can fall asleep at the wheel or be distracted by his seeming buffoonery. He and his team are quite practiced at these particular slight-of-hand techniques, and they are using them quite skillfully to roll back environmental restraints, education policies, medical services, and every other program meant to protect those who are unable to protect themselves.

In my continuing search to find hope in the midst of our present global madness, I stumbled upon a quote from William Blake: The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom. And I would add, eventually and only when we learn from those excesses—something any recovering addict can testify to. The idea that excess can eventually transform into wisdom—a very Jupiter-in-Scorpio idea—also reminded me of Hexagram 32, Duration, in the I-Ching, the ancient Chinese book of wisdom, which quotes Lao-tse: If we wish to compress something, we must first let it fully expand. While I am not in favor of the systematic dismantling of all good things that Mr. Trump and his greedy cohort seem intent on, I’m holding onto the notion that as his policies are revealed—as his excesses continue to come to light—more and more of the people he’s bamboozled will recognize the conceit of his deceit and find their path to the palace of wisdom.

Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
The challenge is searching for your own way of seeing things, a perspective that will allow you to feel buoyed and bolstered amidst the ongoing chaos that has become daily life. As you search, try to keep in mind that everyone is searching for their own brand of solace—even the bullies. Align yourself with positive thinking and you’ll make it through these waters.

Taurus April 20-May 20
The emphasis on relationships continues, ramping up your desire to engage in all sorts of interactions with others. This is good news because this expansive phase reaches out to a wide range of activities with a wide variety of people. As you expand your relationship field, keep in mind that your first and primary relationship is with yourself—so treat yourself well because that’s the first step toward healthy interactions.

Gemini May 21-June 21
Use this week to gather and tidy up a wide variety of loose ends. Whether it’s health, job or general concerns about how to improve your well-being, make it a point to follow through on the details—especially if you’re worried about something or have a particular concern. This is simply a good time to get certain areas of your life organized and running efficiently.

Cancer June 22-July 22
There are opportunities to be inspired—in lots of ways, by lots of stimuli. Take advantage of these potent moments by honoring ideas as they pop into your head. It doesn’t matter whether it’s an actual work of art that inspires you or a human being you admire and respect. Whatever the source of inspiration, allow yourself to be open to creative expression—it will work wonders for the soul.

Leo July 23-August 22
Honor that urge to hunker down at home and the need to be comfortable and cozy. If for some reason that external space isn’t a possibility, figure out how to settle more deeply within yourself. Maybe it’s a new mantra, a meditation technique, or an inspirational book that allows you to root yourself in important information that can solidify your sense of inner peace.

Virgo August 23-September 22
Listen closely but also feel deeply. Conversations could start to feel magical, especially if you’re listening not just to what’s being said, but also to the feelings—yours and others’—riding the current of your interactions. This sixth sense has the potential to key you into important issues you might otherwise ignore. So rather than just ride the surface, plumb the depths.

Libra September 23-October 22
It’s a very busy week—and I don’t say that lightly. Not only did Mars just move into your Sign, signaling an entirely new level of energy, but you’re also in an ambitious mindset and interested in success.  Have at it—but be wise about your choices. There are plenty of opportunities, so rather than just take the first offer, think about what it is you would like to do.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
It is important to find healthy ways of spending your excess energy so you can avoid an intense build-up that might erupt in ways you would rather avoid. Physical exercise would be your best bet, but if that’s not a possibility, find an active meditation. Whatever you decide, keep it safe by avoiding unnecessary risks—the point is maintaining your health, not challenging it.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
Let me put it this way: Your imagination is working overtime—which is good—and your internal universe is so busy you might not pay attention to external responsibilities—which is not so good. Just like last week, this week is also all about finding a balance that can accommodate the call of the wild (imagination)—and practical concerns (the mundane, day-to-day of the world).

Capricorn December 22-January 19
This week, work wins—there’s just no stopping you because you’re filled with energy and eager to pour that power into positive endeavors, whether career projects or volunteering. Just remember that old cliché: All work and no play…. I don’t think you’ll have a problem having fun, especially because in your world, work is fun—so have at it.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
Recognition is the keyword for the week, so don’t be surprised if you’re acknowledged for your gifts and talents, as well as contributions to your community. Some of this appreciation may feel overdue—but the timing couldn’t be better, especially because it’s likely to lead to opportunities to participate in other projects that might not have been available previously.

Pisces February 19-March 20
Jupiter is one of your Ruling Planets and at the moment it is transiting your Solar Ninth House, its natural home, so it wouldn’t be surprising if you’re feeling quite comfortable in your skin. Of course, there are days when that grounded confidence won’t be completely accessible, but on the days that it is, you just might be surprised with how good it feels to you.
