Aquarium Age

The Aquarium Age: Jan. 17-23

By Ralfee Finn

It’s another week of transitions: The Sun and Venus are changing Signs—Venus makes the move on Thursday, January 18, and the Sun, on Saturday, January 20—and as both leave Capricorn, an Earth Sign, and enter Aquarius, an Air Sign, regular routines run the risk of losing just a little bit of their recent constancy. Aquarius is, after all, the Sign of utopian idealism, where the possible replaces the practical. It’s the Sign that invites Capricornian pragmatism to surrender to Aquarian dreams and the power of imagination. But don’t worry—even as ideas take flight, there’s still enough ballast from Saturn, in Capricorn, to keep the day-to-day fairly steady, and that translates into plenty of support for all sorts of endeavors.

The Sun and Venus have been traveling together since mid-December and they will continue to move in tandem until the end of January. When these two positive lights join forces, we tend to experience a deep need as well as a deep appreciation for beauty. It also encourages making ultimate value—not merely the riches of the material world—a motive force in making decisions. As the Sun and Venus move into Aquarius, their combined influence is likely to stimulate personal choices born of a desire to break free from the mundane.

Mars moves out of its conjunction with Jupiter this week—they’ve been sharing the same space in Scorpio since the last week of December. Their combined influence fuels the immediate implementation of plans and projects, even if some of those efforts are a bit exaggerated. Mars symbolizes ambition. Jupiter represents expansion. When they unite and travel together, the desire for success increases. Their journey through Scorpio, which symbolizes sex as well as power, certainly brought themes of sex and power to the surface of daily life, specifically the abuse of power through sexual predation and harassment. But the conversation and ongoing transformation of those issues won’t disappear just because their conjunction is separating. This Mars/Jupiter conjunction offered opportunities to deepen individual as well as collective awareness about how power can be abused in a sexual context, and that awareness isn’t going away any time soon. What’s more, Jupiter’s journey through Scorpio is far from over—it doesn’t end until November 8, 2018, which means there’s plenty of time for additional revelations. And on a lighter note, there’s plenty of time to simply enjoy the pleasures of Scorpio!

We’re also in an eclipse zone, with a lunar eclipse on January 31, which adds yet another transitional thread to this week and the next several weeks. Eclipses always cast a shadow of influence that begins about six weeks before and after the actual event. Keep in mind that the January 31 lunar eclipse is related to the lunar eclipse of last August 7, 2017, making it probable that issues from last August will reappear—if they haven’t already. During a lunar eclipse emotions are overshadowed by practical concerns, but given that this eclipse occurs on the Aquarius/Leo axis, we’re likely to see intense reactions, especially when the idealism of both Aquarius and Leo collide with the sobering influence of Saturn, in Capricorn. (NOTE: There’s a solar eclipse on February 15, which relates to the Great American Eclipse of last August 21—but more about that as we get closer, even though we are already in its shadow.)

This week, contemplate the importance of blending the actual with the ideal—this is the strength of Saturn’s dual rulership of Capricorn and Aquarius: Capricorn is the voice of reality; Aquarius symbolizes the vision necessary to grow and evolve. As I keep reiterating, Mr. Trump (and you thought I wasn’t going there?) is the homeopathic remedy for the many, many ailments that plague our planet, and he has raised to the surface the symptoms of a deep global disease: the inability of too many of Earth’s human inhabitants to recognize our interconnectedness and interdependence. Greed, hatred and violence stem from a belief that we are separate from one another and separate from the Planet Earth. Those who know that we are not separate—that we are interwoven streams of consciousness—need to stay vigilant in their determination to remind others of our common ground. One of the ways to do this is through compassion and kindness to our fellow travelers.

Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
One of the fundamental rules of magic is that you can only create what you can envision, so before you succumb to frustration or disappointment, contemplate what it is you’re really after. This isn’t about right or wrong—it’s about clarity, intention and the ability to follow through with positive action.

Taurus April 20-May 20
You could find yourself taking an adamant stand for your principles, and while it’s important to identify what matters most to you, it’s equally important to be willing to release ideas that no longer serve. Of course, this is a process, but the more you think about what you value, the easier it will be.

Gemini May 21-June 21
You’re likely to take a more philosophical approach to the ups and downs of certain perplexing situations. I’m not suggesting that you completely detach and pull away, but I am advising a more objective perspective that will allow the emotional charge to diminish and provide the clarity you’re craving.

Cancer June 22-July 22
The emphasis shifts to resources as you contemplate what would provide a solid sense of personal security. Yes, money matters and there are always bills to pay, but it might be beneficial to contemplate the value of non-financial resources—a fine mind, a healthy body and an effective spiritual practice.

Leo July 23-August 22
Do whatever it is you do to find and maintain your equilibrium, inside and out. Exercise, meditate, gather with friends, or devote yourself to creative pursuits. Whatever it is, make balance your goal, if only because it will help you sustain a positive attitude, and that will work wonders all day and every day.

Virgo August 23-September 22
Conversations with a wide range of people stimulate a new point of view, particularly when it comes to understanding intentions. Rather than making assumptions about motives, learn to listen at a deeper level. You might be surprised to discover that most folks are only concerned with being safe.

Libra September 23-October 22
Your ongoing efforts to create solid ground have focused on creating financial security—always an important area to concentrate on. That being said, it’s also important to feel secure in who you are. Contemplate what could bring you a greater sense of self-confidence, and make sure it’s a part of your tool kit.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
Jupiter in your Sign is sure to magnify the need to feel expansive in almost every area of life, and while some of these urges may seem over the top, they probably aren’t as extreme as you might imagine. Your naturally reticent nature tends to hold back, but right now it might be wise to go forth and conquer.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
Yes, the emphasis is still on the very practical subject of money, and although I’m not suggesting you shift that focus, it might be wise to contemplate your many other resources.  Don’t worry—this isn’t a dire warning. It’s just an invitation to embrace a more expansive view that includes non-material assets.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
The bright light of planetary activity is still illuminating your presence and making you the center of attention. It’s important to handle this limelight gracefully, if only because others will learn from your example. So rather than be shy, be bold and seize this opportunity to be all you, all the time.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
It’s a deeply emotional week and there’s absolutely no blame if you’re wearing your heart on your sleeve—wear it proudly because denying your deep feelings is almost impossible. Just be aware that feelings present an interesting paradox: They are essential to creativity and they can change in a heartbeat.

Pisces February 19-March 20
Take a deep breath, and as you exhale imagine you’re releasing a truckload of stress and strain that you’ve accumulated in recent weeks. Whew…it’s been a lot to deal with, but you’re up to the challenge, especially if you allow yourself enough time to build up your inner reserves through rest and meditation.
