Kimball Art Center in Park City has a wide assortment of awesome classes starting this week, many of which still have open spots: In the “Pen & Ink” class starting this Wednesday at 6PM, new and experienced artists alike will be guided through the fluid movements of drawing and illustrating with these fundamental tools, while the “Watercolor Painting Workshop” held this Saturday at 1PM will help students create a small watercolor painting using proper paint mixing technique. (Costs are $110 and $30, respectively, plus materials.) But the sexiest class—from a flying-sparks perspective— has to be the “Introduction to Sculptural Welding”: Covering the basics of metalworking, as well as metal sculpture design, participants will have the opportunity to use MIG welders, oxygen/acetylene torches, plasma cutters, grinders, shapers, and other tools that will bend metal, including found objects, to their will. Class starts this Thursday at 5PM; cost is $300 plus an additional $100 fee for materials.
