The Aquarium Age: Sept. 25-Oct. 1

By Ralfee Finn

Uranus and Pluto continue to dominate astral affairs this week, and as they persist in questioning authority and challenging the structures of daily life, we continue confronting change. For some of us, regular routines have shifted so dramatically, it’s hard to find solid ground anywhere. For still more of our fellow travelers, finding and maintaining balance, within or without, takes too much effort to stay vital for necessary tasks.

And while it’s also true that lots of people are thriving under Uranus and Pluto, for many of those that are, it’s hard staying impervious to the suffering of others. We are in the midst of a revolution that is unrelenting in its demand for evolution and because the battleground is everywhere, “things” are falling apart at an alarming rate. And they will continue to fall apart until we pay more attention to what unites rather than what divides. Don’t misunderstand; I’m not caught in the conceit of cynicism; I’m simply trying to learn from history: Change is possible, but not without monumental shifts in attitudes as well as behavior.

The Sun amplifies the ongoing intensity this week, as it moves into an opposition to Uranus and a square to Pluto, a fractious interaction that operates for the next two weeks; it is exact and separating on October 3. This configuration, known as a T-Square, feeds the souls of zealots as it simultaneously fans the fire of fanaticism, inflaming even the mild mannered to break free from whatever enslaves. And because the Sun is in Libra, the Sign of relationship, this strong force for liberation could inspire more than a few decrees of divorce. If your relationship is on shaky ground, this T-Square will highlight the weaknesses. On the opposite side of the spectrum, it could also loosen the ties that bind to solitude or isolation. Wherever you find yourself along this spectrum, expect to feel motivated to move off of a tried and true position; also be prepared for emotional tremors as others relinquish theirs.

Uranus/Pluto contacts always signify the struggle for social justice. This week, a new movie, Inequality for All, exemplifies that struggle, as it focuses on the widening gap between the rich and the rest of us and the consequences of that chasm. In keeping with chasms, we are also facing the threat of a government shutdown. The last time the Republicans threatened and succeeded in shutting down the government was during a series of Uranus/Pluto sextiles that occurred from 1995-1997.

Old regimes die hard. Whether they are political or personal, material or ethereal, actual or imaginary, the structures that hold reality in place—physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual—do not let go easily. Even change agents, no matter how deeply committed to conscious living, often struggle to release the old in order to make way for the new. Habits have a way of lingering, stereotypes have a way of making themselves invisible, and wisdom tends to ossify, especially when pride supports a lesson well learned but is no longer applicable. It takes tremendous effort to make a different choice.

In the face of inexorable change, many of us cling to what we know, rather than face the free fall of the unknown, forgetting that in the uncertainty of that fall lies the power of transformation.

If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that, too.

Aries March 21-April 19
Devote yourself to doing the simple chores at home, and you’ll find more than a modicum of relief from the stresses of the world. I’m not suggesting denial; I’m simply advising you to take a break. Rest your mind and you’ll return refreshed.

Taurus April 20-May 20
The secret of handling this next level of intensity is in your ability to have intimate conversations with those you love about the things that matter. Be clear and precise, but also be truthful with yourself as well as others.

Gemini May 21-June 21
The stress continues to look financial—and it may well be. But your ability to handle it lies in your ability to move out of the “reality” of lack, perceived or actual, and into an understanding that true abundance can be found in the give and take of life’s cycles.

Cancer June 22-July 22
It won’t be easy standing your ground, but that doesn’t make it any less necessary. You don’t have to be defended or defensive; you simply have to stay in the truth of what you need as you are simultaneously committed to acknowledging the needs of others.

Leo July 23-August 22
External stress amplifies your already intense internal process. But that’s still no excuse for brooding away time and energy. Harness this intensity and let it fuel your creative imagination. If you refuse to get mired in your perceived limitations and you’ll break an old persistent pattern.

Virgo August 23-September 22
Assess your connection to your community and see if there are ways to improve your participation. You don’t have to run for political office unless that’s what your heart desires, but you do have to notice where you long to be part of a much bigger picture.

Libra September 23-October 22
You’re still in the midst of a relationship intensive, which means you’re still figuring out your role—who you want to be and what’s required to manifest that vision. Take your time, and as you do, consider what it is you would most like to contribute.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
The challenge underscoring your progress is how to deepen your faith in the small meaningful steps that are necessary to actualize what you know to be true intellectually but haven’t yet transformed into action. Do not abandon this process—you will eventually manifest your desires.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
Succumb to the stress of having to please others and you’ll eventually lose yourself. Rather than drowning in co-dependence, figure out what you need to be confident in your choices and then do whatever it takes to stay steady in that knowledge.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
While this may sound counter-intuitive, the best way to hold your own is to acknowledge the needs of others. I know…it’s confusing, but in noticing your resistance to this process, you’ll discover the next step of personal growth. And yes, it is that simple.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
How do you spell relief? Helping others. Concentrate on assisting those in need, and your needs (which could be many) will diminish. I’m not sure why this works, but my hunch is that the shift toward generosity alleviates stress.

Pisces February 19-March 20
Self-definition is never easy, but for someone who struggles with boundaries, it’s a life-long theme. Risk being yourself—no rehearsal, no denial, no withholding—the unedited you, and see if that freedom allows you to identify what it is you need to feel comfortable in your own skin.
