Mercury goes direct on Friday, October 9, just before noon EDT, and as Mercury, the symbol for communication and travel, moves forward, the snafus and delays of recent weeks start to diminish and the routines of daily life begin to resume “normal” patterns. Just don’t jump the gun—it usually takes Mercury three days to gain momentum and get back on track. The important news about Mercury Direct is that it collides with several extremely intense interactions, none of which are interested in waiting for anyone or anything.
You will need all your patience and then some to deal with the give and take of the next several days, so do whatever it is you do to keep yourself aligned with a positive attitude.
Besides the best news—Mercury Direct—the strongest undercurrent of the week is a Sun/Pluto square. We’ve been under this influence for the last week, and now as this interaction is separating, we’re likely to feel its strongest effect, which is an almost insatiable need for power and control. Of course, this energy can be put to positive use, but it also inclines many toward a need to dominate any opposition. Because the Sun is in Libra, this fractious force is likely to play out in relationships of every denomination. Notice where you are insisting on a certain agenda or where someone else is demanding you follow his or hers.
But this Sun/Pluto square isn’t the only combination that might be hard to handle. A Mars/Jupiter conjunction, in Virgo, trines Pluto, in Capricorn, and while this interaction sounds positive and benign—and it is—when Mars and Jupiter combine, they stimulate great ambition, coupled with the capacity to work 24/7 to accomplish any and all goals. But it also needs to be handled with skill, if only because the determination generated by this interaction can easily justify stepping on the toes of others to get the job done—whatever that job might be. This Mars/Jupiter/Pluto configuration supports organizing your efforts and applying those strategies to plans already in motion, as well as to new projects. And in the wake of Mercury Retrograde, it will facilitate quick recovery from many delays and detours.
But it would be wise to anticipate some of those ambitious efforts getting derailed, given a Sun/Uranus opposition, in effect until October 18. This intense interaction signals rebellion as well as an urge to defy authorities, deadlines, and any other demands on time, effort, and the freedom to do whatever you want whenever you want to do it. Rebels, with or without a cause, thrive on Sun/Uranus contacts, so expect tensions to escalate in all those areas of the world where people are fighting for independence.
This Sun/Uranus opposition also intensifies eccentric behavior, so don’t be surprised if the activities of the week are seasoned with visitations from oddball characters, all of whom seem to be wandering into your life from their dreams. Also anticipate a strong desire to break free from any patterns you imagine are holding you back from fully expressing yourself—or actually are inhibiting your self-expression. As you make your declaration for personal freedom, try to remember that many of your fellow travelers are also experiencing the same need for independence. Try to respect their efforts as well. As I often remind, we are all in this together and the more we honor our shared experience, the easier it is to be kind and compassionate to each other.
There are no Sunbursts this week. They will be back next week.
