The Aquarium Age: Nov. 25 – Dec. 1

By Ralfee Finn

We’re in the final six weeks of an extraordinary year, a year that stretched boundaries so far that the minds of even the most imaginative visionaries had to struggle to keep a hold on reality. And while it is great to be surprised, the bombardment of violence, coupled with the constant barrage of startling plot twists, has left many fatigued, overwhelmed, and exhausted. Yes…there are plenty of people benefitting from reversals of fortune, but even the fortunate need time to integrate all that has changed.

Daily life often reflects the activity in the sky, and as this week and the next several weeks unfold, regular routines overlap with seasonal extras and already crowded calendars turn unmanageable. Be prepared for angry outbreaks activated by pent-up frustration. But also anticipate purposeful acts of kindness and generosity. There is a great movement afoot, something many of us are part of, a movement that is seeking balance, harmony, and genuine good will toward our fellow travelers, and not just during the season of glad tidings, but all year long. For although some may demonstrate fearful and paranoid reactions to the challenges we face individually as well as collectively, there are many more quiet, thoughtful responses by those who refuse to be poisoned by the toxicity of hatred, stupidity, fundamentalism, and terrorism. The majority of us simply want to live in peace.

Unfortunately, the astrology for the next several weeks isn’t peaceful—quite the contrary. Mars, the planet of assertion and aggression, moves into a strident stance this week, a stance that doesn’t quit until December 19. Mars begins this aggressive position as a square to Pluto on November 27; this square is exact and separating on December 6. Simultaneously Mars opposes Uranus beginning December 2; this opposition is exact and separating on December 10. It’s a pernicious interaction that ends six days before Christmas. Mars, Uranus, and Pluto are the three planets of intensity. Each represents movement: Mars signifies muscles and the need to physically move. Uranus represents the volatility of sudden, spontaneous movement that is unpredictable and unstable. Pluto symbolizes molecular change, change at the core, the type of transformation that underscores the process of death and rebirth.

The most pronounced effect of this T-Square is agitation, whether from anxiety attributable to personal disturbances or collective upset caused by acts of aggression. The solution for the combative energy of these coming weeks is to do whatever it is you do to hold fast to your internal center. Adding to the tumult will only exacerbate the intensity.

A somber mood also prevails this week, with a Sun/Saturn conjunction that is exact and separating on November 29. This is a sobering, serious configuration that could cause some to despair that their situation will never change. But a Sun/Saturn/Neptune combination could also inspire a new spiritual approach or the refinement of your already existing path and practice.

Tomorrow, November 26, is Thanksgiving here in the United States, a day set aside for food and gratitude. It used to be my favorite holiday for food. After I learned how to stuff and cook a turkey, make a pie crust (which is really difficult), prepare cranberry sauce from scratch, and cobble together gravy (which should really be its own food group), I made Thanksgiving a ritual of love. But for the last twenty years or more, I have celebrated Thanksgiving purely as a festival of gratitude. Sure the food still takes center stage, but during times such as these, especially when violence appears to prevail, and despair can easily gain ground, a day of gratitude seem more important than ever. Every moment set aside to recognize all the good there is in this life nourishes the heart and the soul.

This year I am deeply thankful for all of our fellow travelers who hold high the flag of compassion, who refuse to succumb to hatred, and who will not let fear corrupt the choice to be kind. I am in awe of just how many of us choose love as the answer.

Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
Pay attention to how you relate to significant others, personal as well as professional, because it’s through those interactions that the tensions of the next several weeks are likely to be revealed. I’m not suggesting you abandon yourself in favor of others simply to keep the peace. But I would consider using this time as an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of how to balance the needs of others without abandoning your own.

Taurus April 20-May 20
You’re likely to be irritable, especially when it comes to the details of the job—whatever they may be, and the problem is that you can’t ignore the process. As a result, you’re tempted to be hypercritical of others as a way of blowing off your anxiety. Take as many deep breaths as necessary to stay calm and centered. With a steady pace, all the necessary pieces of the puzzle will eventually fall into place.

Gemini May 21-June 21
There’s no need to succumb to false bravado—you have all the confidence you need to stay on the field and handle any difficulties that might arise. The key to your success is staying aware of the various conflicting agendas of the other people participating in or affected by the situation. Be humble and listen carefully as they express their concerns—some are valid and some are just an expression of nervous anxiety.

Cancer June 22-July 22
It’s a moody couple of weeks that are likely to inspire leaping into action without considering the consequences simply to do something—anything—to break the tension. Yes…impulsive behavior can often provide a respite from a standstill, but given the volatility embodied in this tension, it might be wise to bide your time. For while being patient also produces stress, acting without thinking could produce uncomfortable long-term results.

Leo July 23-August 22
You don’t usually do well submitting to the agendas of others, especially if those plans are counter to your own. But there is simply no escaping the situation. So rather than brood about it, embrace the current limitations. Combine your innate generosity of spirit with your innate creativity, and you’ll figure how not only stay present, but also how to use this phase as a growth opportunity.

Virgo August 23-September 22
It looks like a money issue—and it could be–but before you grow impatient with your financial picture, assess your reservoirs of self-esteem and self-confidence. Do you value your contribution? Can you complete the job? Are you practical about what has to be done next in order to achieve your vision? After you’ve answered those questions, move on to your finances—you might be better off than you originally thought.

Libra September 23-October 22
You’ve been here before and the question remains the same: How do you balance your own needs for safety and security with the very similar needs of your significant others? Start with being forthright and direct about your concerns. Then listen just as intensely as your partner expresses his or her needs. In the end, intimacy is being able to communicate from the heart, even if what you have to say is uncomfortable.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
Although you’re used to withdrawing into the confines of your own counsel, there’s a brooding quality to the next several weeks that you would be wise not to indulge. Yes, too many words with too many people have the potential to confuse the issue, but there will be nuggets of gold hidden in the advice of others. So even if it is hard, stay on the field and listen to what others have to say with an open mind and heart.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
Your natural love of freedom rings through the next several weeks, making it almost a sure thing that you will take a stand for yourself and others dealing with a similar sense of confinement or inhibition. Good…hold your ground, but as you do, remember that there may be surprising developments with the power to push the entire situation in a new direction. Answer the call, but stay open to the idea of new solution.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
Acknowledge your ambitions, and if you’re not sure what you want to accomplish, take some time thinking about where your heart and soul would be best spent. Of course, you will consider the pitfalls and drawbacks—that’s just your nature—but don’t confuse the difficulties with obstacles that can be overcome with hard work and strong intention. Trust your urge to succeed and you’ll be pleased with the results.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
You’re searching for a broader vision that includes an expansive horizon, and while the entirety of that might be out of reach at the moment, try not to let anxiety about when it will all come together turn your efforts toxic. Stay present during this process, for while it may seem to move at a glacial pace, you are slowly making progress toward your goals and will eventually succeed.

Pisces February 19-March 20
It is only a financial crisis if you allow yourself to get swept away by nervousness and anxiety. Of course we can’t control the outcome of things that are still in motion, but we can learn to trust. And that is the key to the next several weeks. Trust the process, from the inside out, and immerse yourself in the ability to finally let go and feel supported, even if you don’t get everything you desire.
