The planets align in complex patterns this week, and working through the astral intricacies requires an expansive perspective. Expect to be confounded by the challenge of figuring out not only where to stand on a variety of issues, but also how to stand in relation to this mashugana world. So many significant transitions are occurring simultaneously that it’s simply impossible to track the shifts. From political nervous breakdowns to the realization of just how deeply the fault lines of bigotry penetrate societal structures to the widening economic and educational chasms that exacerbate divisions in an already too divided world to religious fanaticism based on literalism, it’s a mind-boggling mess. How to walk through the collective upheaval and still find meaning and purpose in the routines of daily life is the trial of the times. And while it is not an easy one, answering the call of this challenge is soul forging.
The most important planetary pattern and the one that underlies all that is taking place is the ongoing cycle of Uranus/Pluto squares. The final exact contact was only two days ago, on March 16—and we’re still in its wake. While it is a relief to have the series over, the powerful forces of change associated with this interaction are not behind us. What’s more, the aftermath is likely to be where we will witness and experience its deeper effects. Since June 2012, when these squares started, Uranus and Pluto have highlighted, spotlighted, and underscored all the places still in need of transformation. Racial, religious, gender, and economic prejudice are at the forefront of this wave of change, and the events have been so shocking that denial is impossible. Now the work begins—personal work to ferret out all the places where each of us still adheres to stereotypes that keep us mired in separation and judgment, as well as our collective work to address these issues of social justice and facilitate positive transformation. We have the solutions. We just need the will and determination to continue applying them.
A solar eclipse on March 20 adds emotional complexity to the week. When the Moon overshadows the Sun, unconscious feelings overshadow practical concerns. This eclipse occurs at 29 degrees Pisces. Because the Sign in which an eclipse occurs colors its effect, and because Pisces, a Water Sign, is already deeply emotional, it would be wise to expect this eclipse to bring a tidal wave of feelings to the surface of daily interactions. We often feel the effect of an eclipse prior to the actual event as well as in its aftermath, which means you may already be experiencing a highly sensitive state of emotional awareness. Or others in your life may be expressing feelings previously unexpressed but nonetheless strongly felt. Be patient with yourself and others as you work your way through this eclipse effect.
But that’s not all. There is also a lunar eclipse on April 4. Normally, a lunar eclipse illuminates conscious concerns, but this eclipse has the Moon in Libra opposing the Sun/Uranus conjunction. This conjunction signifies the need for tremendous personal freedom. Uranus adds an element of urgency as well as surprise. Expect strong emotional responses to startling revelations. Again, you may already be feeling the effect of this eclipse, given the range of its shadow, or you may feel it as we draw closer to the actual event.
By the way, for all those people who think that Mercury is retrograde because all your technology is acting as if it is…Mercury is not retrograde. The culprit is the Mars/Uranus conjunction that’s been in effect since the beginning of March and continues for another couple of days. It’s an erratic signature with the power to disrupt normally stable connections.
Again, finding a broad perspective that allows you to view the immediate intensities as part of a much bigger perspective is the key to handling this week and the next couple of weeks. If you’re suffering from issues that are not life threatening, then you’re suffering from issues of privilege—and just knowing that should put an end to your lament. Of course, if you’re oblivious to the suffering of others, you’re probably not reading this column. On the other hand, if you are suffering over the difficulty of a world in transition, start looking for positive solutions to your angst—meditate, read, seek the counsel of a good therapist, join a community of like-minded people, volunteer where your efforts will be appreciated. In other words, do something about it. Each of us is the antidote to the turmoil in the world because each of us can create peace right where we are. It’s all a matter of perspective.
Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.
Aries March 21-April 19
We’re entering the season of your personal strength and you can already feel the excitement of release. And although it is truly thrilling, please don’t jump the gun. There are a few more days before complete personal freedom is yours. Just please remember to be courteous to your fellow travelers as you blaze by at the speed of joy.
Taurus April 20-May 20
The simplest advice I can offer is: Expect the unexpected. But the problem is that you might have seen it coming. And for the moment, that’s just how it goes in your world. Patience is the best way to handle this flux, so take as many deep breaths as necessary to gain greater perspective. And remember, it’s just a phase.
Gemini May 21-June 21
The eclipse brings to light several work-related issues that are affecting you more deeply than you may have realized. Rather than deny the importance of these feelings, honor them. You don’t have to share the details with anyone, but you do have to acknowledge the truth of your heart.
Cancer June 22-July 22
It is a crisis of faith, but that’s not such a bad thing, given the prevailing wisdom that facing doubt tends to strengthen beliefs rather than weaken them. Be brave, give voice to your questions, and let an honest inner dialogue restore your inner peace.
Leo July 23-August 22
The eclipse signals possibilities for major transformation, but to make the most of these opportunities you must look deeply into several previously avoided issues. I’m not suggesting you confess to crimes you haven’t committed. I’m simply advising you to stop dragging your feet and get to work.
Virgo August 23-September 22
Maintain the broadest possible perspective on all that’s occurring and you’ll find the stamina to make it through a wide range of changes. I’m not suggesting this process is easy, but the right view will hold you steady on your course—and that will have exponentially positive results.
Libra September 23-October 22
The eclipse illuminates work and health issues, particularly stresses you haven’t been able to manage. Focus on all those areas in need of a calming and soothing perspective and you’ll emerge with a much more grounded attitude about how to handle all the workload.
Scorpio October 23-November 21
Use the eclipse to discover what’s inhibiting your full self-expression. Notice the emotions that arise during this phase, and rather than reject those feelings because they are uncomfortable, accept them. You don’t have to act on every emotion; you just have to witness their depth and intensity.
Sagittarius November 22-December 21
Expect issues of safety and security to stir deep emotional reactions to your situation, and while some of those concerns may be real—and I’m sure some are—what’s important is how you handle your feelings. Make a commitment to observe rather than react and you’ll engage the transformational power of the week.
Capricorn December 22-January 19
Intimate conversations with family members validate what was previously just your intuition about what was lying beneath the surface of daily interactions. Do your best to listen compassionately to what is said, but also don’t hold back your feelings—it’s the honest exchange that matters.
Aquarius January 20-February 18
The eclipse highlights values, and while this could show itself as money matters, it could just as easily manifest as a crisis in self-esteem. Feel your way through this experience, and rather than contract under difficult feelings, allow those emotions to surface. Once you know what needs to shift, you can get to work.
Pisces February 19-March 20
Yes…the focus is on your Sign, in your Solar House of personality, all of which translates into an identity crisis for you. But it doesn’t have to be a negative experience. Give yourself permission to explore what you need to be completely authentic, and then do your best to integrate that awareness into daily life.
