The Aquarium Age: June 15

By Ralfee Finn

It’s with a heavy heart that I write this week’s column—after the massacre in Orlando, and given the heavy air penetrating our collective hearts with yet another awful tragedy, it’s not possible to write a normal planetary weather report about the coming week.

The deluge of hate that has become a habitual disease infecting daily life around the world is too much for any of us to bear. This week it is Orlando, where so many were killed and wounded just two days after a gifted young singer had been gunned down. But this is a flood that includes Columbine, Newtown, San Bernardino, Aurora, Blacksburg, the Middle East and beyond, where thousands upon thousands upon thousands have been wounded and killed by hatred that refuses to see every life, each life—all life—as sacred.

I’m in need of a respectful silence for my fellow travelers who have lost their lives to violence as well as for their loved ones—family, friends and neighbors—whose lives have been shattered by the shrapnel of hatred, and for all of us, because every heart is wounded by hatred and its violence.
