The Aquarium Age: January 13-19

By Ralfee Finn

It’s an interesting week of tricky Mercury Retrograde twist and turns, but it’s also a week that provides plenty of potential for positive creative collaboration. Patience pills to ward off retrograde frustration are still necessary—no matter how expansive the potential for teamwork might be, the retrograde still snarls actual traffic on the way to work, as it simultaneously triggers gridlock on the information highway. The good news is that many fellow travelers are in a good mood and leaning toward a generosity of spirit despite retrograde snafus. And that goes a long way toward making it easier to handle the week.

This is the second week of the first Mercury Retrograde phase of 2016. Mercury is conjunct the Sun and both are in a trine to Jupiter. We love this, even though a Sun/Mercury conjunction can tilt minds and hearts toward a subjective perspective. The Sun symbolizes spirit. Mercury signifies the mind, and when they share the same space, there’s not a lot of spaciousness between who we are and what we think. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it does make it difficult to see a situation from a variety of viewpoints. The good news about this conjunction—and why we love it—is its trine to Jupiter. Jupiter represents an expansive frame of reference that includes philosophy, religion, education, global communication, and all other aspects of life that extend beyond the reach of the “everyday.” Trines are positive interactions, and when the Sun, Mercury, and Jupiter unite in this constructive alliance, we have an opportunity to experience a wealth of ideas, many of which are grounded in common sense. This positive signature is in effect for most of the week. Use its power to open new perspectives, common ground, and collaborative efforts with a wide range of people and resources. Keep in mind, however, that Jupiter is also retrograde, which means some of what gets created this week is likely to unfold at a slower pace than you might desire.

A Venus/Jupiter square is also in effect this week, and while this combination of planetary energy indicates happiness, squares are fractious interactions that interfere with joy and tend to skew things toward irritation. Rather than focusing on the negative aspects of your situation, focus on what works and how you can use those positive qualities to improve the overall picture.

A Mars/Neptune trine adds a current of altruism to the week, which is able to provide help where help is needed. It’s always important to keep in mind that although a complete end to war may not be possible yet, each of us has the power to end war in our individual lives. This positive combination of Mars, which symbolizes the ability to assert, and Neptune, which signifies the capacity for compassion, can serve as a much-needed balm for the narrow-mindedness that seems to prevail at the moment.

Saturn and Uranus are going to stay in close, positive contact with each other from now through March, although they won’t quite form an exact trine until December 24. But as they move together closely, we are likely to experience an increased determination to overcome challenges, both individual and collective. This Saturn/Uranus trine isn’t necessarily a panacea for all that ails. But it does provide the much-needed strength to tackle difficult, stagnant situations in need of transformation.

Yes…readers of the Aquarium Age…it’s a good week! I’m not suggesting that swords will turn into plowshares everywhere and all at once. But any time any one of us can seize the moment and turn it toward peace is a landmark moment—and we should take advantage of those opportunities every chance we get. Even if you feel ineffectual in the face of all that “needs done” in your life or in the world, don’t let that stop you from being kind to yourself, to your family, to your pets, or to the dog next door who won’t stop barking. We are all sentient beings sharing the same planet, and all efforts to “make nice” move us toward a better world.

Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
Jupiter is retrograde in your Solar House of work, service and health, which means for the next several months you’re on a journey to expand how you take better care of yourself and others. Additionally, this phase has the potential for valuable teamwork. Make the most of it by staying positive, optimistic and generous.

Taurus April 20-May 20
Jupiter’s retrograde journey through your Solar House of self-expression is certain to stimulate your creativity as well as your desire for romance. Be confident in your ability to harness this vital phase. You may not be able to use its force to generate the love of your life, but you can use it to express your love of life.

Gemini May 21-June 21
Jupiter Retrograde stirs up things at home, externally as well as internally. Don’t be surprised if you want to renovate your living space. But also anticipate wanting to improve your internal center through enhanced breathing techniques, yoga, increased meditation, or simply more time set aside for quiet contemplation.

Cancer June 22-July 22
As Jupiter revisits its path through your Solar House of communication, you may find yourself far more social than you previously imagined. Yes…you do like to hibernate, but this is not one of those times. So expect conversations to season your days and ruminations about what was or wasn’t said to stimulate your nights.

Leo July 23-August 22
Jupiter Retrograde through your Solar House of personal finance invites you to reflect on your spending habits—what you spend and why. But more important than the practical aspect of m-o-n-e-y is contemplating how you value yourself in the world and what you recognize as your most valuable asset. Make the most of this phase by assessing where you still fail to see yourself as your greatest resource.

Virgo August 23-September 22
As Jupiter retrogrades through your Solar House of personality—and through your Sign—you are likely to find yourself being more direct than usual. Consider this phase a concentration of energy. You won’t lose your peace-making ability. You’re simply enhancing that positive quality with a greater appreciation for honest, constructive sharing that spotlights your brilliance as a leader.

Libra September 23-October 22
Jupiter Retrograde in your Solar House of the unconscious is certain to stimulate lots of mental activity, so don’t be surprised if it’s hard to settle down, even at night, if only because your dreams are more active than usual. Jupiter’s activity is facilitating a process of greater self-awareness, so pay attention to its messages—they are loaded with information.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
Jupiter is retrograde in your Solar House of community, and as it revisits your social habits, you’re likely to find yourself recalibrating your current contribution to your neighborhood. Allow yourself to engage, but be aware that “neighborhood” doesn’t only mean your physical location. Communities are based on any number of common interests shared on any number of platforms.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
Jupiter, your Ruling Planet, is retrograde in your Solar House of career and recognition, stimulating a thoughtful process about responsibility and accomplishment. Use this time well by exploring what you think you do best. Then, if necessary, tackle the issue of how those gifts can be best expressed out of joy rather than duty.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
Jupiter Retrograde in your Solar House of travel could interfere with your plans to visit distant lands. And while that sounds like a cliché, it is something to consider when making actual long-distance journeys—make sure you have passports, visas, and the like in order. If you’re planning an internal journey, be prepared to question old belief systems that have outlived their value.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
Jupiter is retrograde in your Solar House of transformation, and as it revisits its recent path, you’re revisiting the many, many shifts that have taken place in your life. Be happy for this process because it allows you to review, reflect, and reorganize certain attitudes and beliefs that no longer serve and are definitely in need of an overhaul.

Pisces February 19-March 20
Jupiter Retrograde in your Solar House of relationship stimulates a lot of issues, especially those related to balancing your needs with the needs of significant others. Take a deep breath before you tackle any difficulties and know that there is no need to solve every problem at once. Just take your time, be authentic with yourself about what you feel, and then allow the process to unfold through that authenticity.
