The Aquarium Age: Feb. 19-25
We’re in the final stretch of the first Mercury Retrograde of 2014—it ends on February 28. But, unfortunately, relief isn’t really in sight. While there is only one more week of communication and travel delays, detours, and disasters, routines aren’t going to revert to “regular” any time soon. We’re only in the third lap of a five-retrograde relay that defines the first six months of 2014.
Mars goes retrograde on March 1, the moment after Mercury goes direct, and for the next 9 days as Mars seemingly slows to a crawl, the gears that drive the mechanics of daily life don’t quite mesh, and as a result, lots of plans and projects seem to slip off track. Breathe. Deeply. And then breathe again. There’s nothing to be done about this planetary pattern other than to use it, wisely, by slowing down the pace of daily life, conserving your energy, and reviewing what you’ve already set in motion. We’re in a time warp that blends past, present, and future into either a persistent disorientation or an opportunity to witness the multidimensional fabric of life. As the overlapping rhythms of Mercury and Mars blend past, present, and future, we are reminded that life is anything but linear, and that progress isn’t always a straight line with a discernible beginning, middle, and end. For the time traveler, the current warp is simply another opportunity to witness the Great Mystery as it unfolds.
The final week of Mercury Retrograde is dense. The Sun/Mars trine that characterized the last week is fading away, and the Mercury/Saturn square dominates both minds and moods. Pay attention: Brooding is probable under this influence, and given the already rife with frustration atmosphere, sulking over all the things that aren’t going the way you would like them to isn’t going to change the situation. It’s a great opportunity to learn to let go.
It would be overly optimistic of me to encourage good cheer this week, but…oh well, why not. There’s enough strife on the collective level to last several lifetimes. So as you come into contact with the grinding gears of Mercury and Mars, try not to get embroiled in a brouhaha that will only steal your energy. Save your vital force for what matters, and encourage others to do the same. Some battles are necessary. Others are a decoy or a distraction. Knowing the difference could be the key to handling the next several weeks with grace and skill. As always, be kind and generous to your fellow travelers—very few of us are having an easy time and everyone will benefit from a dose of good will.
If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that, too.
Aries March 21-April 19
The Mercury/Mars gear miss-mesh focuses on relationships of every type and every time zone. Be prepared for confrontations with friends and lovers, past and present. But even if your first reaction is to say “no,” take a breath, and think about it. Some of these encounters could clear the air and create a positive environment.
Taurus April 20-May 20
The missing threads continue to be work-related, and even though you’re doing your best to gather the loose ends, you may feel that others are interfering with your process. Step away from the “vehicle” by taking as many short or long breaks as are necessary to maintain your composure.
Gemini May 21-June 21
It’s true…some systems will fail, but the important lesson of recent failures is that they can also produce create strides that were previously impossible. Moan if you must, but also be fortified by the idea that you will emerge with a much stronger overall approach to similar problems.
Cancer June 22-July 22
You don’t like change, especially when it requires you to give up comforts you’ve grown accustomed to. I’m not suggesting you should give up being cozy, but I am advising you transform certain areas of your life in need of change. It won’t be comfortable, but it will be worthwhile.
Leo July 23-August 22
The Mercury/Mars mess stir adversarial interactions with significant others, past and present. Avoid making statements you might later regret. Strong words can linger longer than they were intended, and taking them back often requires eating more humble pie than you can tolerate.
Virgo August 23-September 22
It is a money issue, especially if you feel that you are not being paid as much as you deserve. But before you launch into a long list of grievances, take a deep breath and review where you were making assumptions and/or pinning your hopes on unrealistic expectations. Get real by keeping it real.
Libra September 23-October 22
Mars is in your Sign, insisting that you reassess your relationship to relationship, and any conflicts you encounter are likely to be borne of your insistence on a specific outcome. Learn to be flexible, and you will reap the rewards of compromise.
Scorpio October 23-November 21
Take the advice above about sulking to heart, because as the gears start to fall off their tracks, you’re likely to start brooding about what isn’t right. Remember, the universe rearranges itself to accommodate our picture of reality. Hold a positive vision, and you will create a positive outcome.
Sagittarius November 22-December 21
Conversations have the potential to quickly devolve into a spiral of suspicion or accusation or misunderstanding—some confusion that will derail your intent. So think before you speak, please. Not everyone has a sense of humor and even well intentioned jokes could be misunderstood.
Capricorn December 22-January 19
Your anxiety is still focused on money, but I’m not convinced that your current struggle isn’t also about values—your values and how to take a stand for them in a way that includes rather than excludes others. Consider having the courage of your convictions, as you simultaneously stay open to opposing points of view.
Aquarius January 20-February 18
Even if the gears are falling off how you want to be perceived, and even if that’s an uncomfortable position, seize the moment and turn it into a growth opportunity. Take a good look at what is falling apart and then an even closer look at how you can improve your persona.
Pisces February 19-March 20
It’s not so much a philosophical difference as it is a question of divergent values. Don’t sell yourself short, and don’t expect others to always agree. Be clear about what you want and need and then listen to others with the same heightened clarity. You’ll be amazed at what you discover.
