The Aquarium Age: Feb. 10-16

By Ralfee Finn

Alert! Last week there was an astrology error in the Weekly Frequency—fortunately, that’s something that doesn’t happen often! I wrote that the Sun/Mars square was ending but I was a week early. My apologies to those who expected grumpy attitudes and irritated outbursts to have faded away by this week. If you’re reading this column for the first time, the Sun signifies vitality, Mars represents assertion, and squares signal friction—so a Sun/Mars square raises the specter of those Disney Dwarfs we seldom hear about—Angry, Irate, and Hostile—apparently all of whom now work for Trump.

This week, the good news is that the worst is over, and the best news is that by this time next week the Sun finally pulls away from Mars, taking with it the last vestiges of belligerence (although, honestly, last week was so busy I hardly noticed when it got too crabby). And because daily life continues to be extraordinarily busy (too busy to pay attention to anyone’s bad attitude, even your own), the cranky-pants signature of this final week of a Sun/Mars square might also go unnoticed.

The very best news is Jupiter, who grabs the spotlight all week long as it continues to sextile Mars and trine both Venus and Pluto. Jupiter is the planet of great good fortune, and when it forms positive alliances, we experience the increased ability to take a wide perspective, even in the midst of whatever we are engaged in, a perspective that often allows us to appreciate our own efforts as well as the efforts of others, a perspective that renews enthusiasm and optimism. (Unfortunately, the Mercury/Jupiter trine is over, and I must say I am sad to see it go, if only because it brilliantly inspires thoughtful musings as well as the cogent expression of those opinions.)

The Mars/Jupiter sextile is producing the potential for enterprises likely to have positive, fruitful outcomes, and often the most beneficial result of those endeavors is the creative freedom you can experience when engaged in plans and projects rooted in joy.

The Venus/Jupiter trine has been operating since February 6 and continues through Valentine’s Day. Venus, as almost everyone knows, is the goddess of love and beauty, and as she aligns with Jupiter, the symbol for “more”, their sweet coupling could produce an urge to buy lavish gifts—so be careful not to spend what you don’t have. But this trine is most likely to simply express itself as the delight of romance and the joy of love. Give yourself permission to dive into the “love vibe.” (Anyone remember Earth Girls Are Easy?) And even if you’re not interested in a specific amorous liaison, allow yourself to fall in love with everything and everyone, and most importantly, fall in love with yourself.

The Jupiter/Pluto trine will be with us for several months. A trine is a positive planetary interaction that is strong and supportive. (In the astrological world, it’s often said that one good trine can make a positive difference in what otherwise might be a multitude of negative interactions.) This Jupiter/Pluto trine supports the desire for power and the need to lead, as it simultaneously feeds philosophical and intellectual leadership. Use it to your advantage by listening carefully to the opinions of others before insisting on your own way.

But that’s not all: A Saturn/Uranus trine which is not yet exact but still close enough to have a presence provides an indefatigable determination and endurance to handle almost any situation as it arises. The power of this trine needs to be wielded wisely, if only because it can become strident when left unchecked. Apply a healthy portion of humility to its strength and you’ll have an easier time using your superpowers for the good.

Humility is actually the key to navigating this week’s astral waters—there’s simply too much going on in everyone’s life and very few, if any, can handle it all without asking for help—and that includes all sorts of help–animal, mineral, vegetable, and spiritual. Humility allows the awareness that each of us is just one small drop in this vast and incomprehensible ocean of life—it helps us find and maintain proportion and perspective. Humility also helps us reach out to others in a sincere effort to help where help is needed.

Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
It’s a choice: You can let your anxiety and frustration motivate reactions that put negative consequences in motion, or you can grab the tiger of your emotions by the tail and acknowledge your concerns, but still move forward courageously. Sounds like a no-brainer, but you will need focus and concentration to make the right moves and satisfy your desire for success.

Taurus April 20-May 20
The secret to the week is figuring out how to embody emotional intelligence even when your feelings seem to be speaking a foreign language. So take a deep breath, let yourself settle into a calmer point of view, and then observe what’s happening around you from a more detached perspective. Then, rather than react to what’s happening, make an effort to respond with good intentions.

Gemini May 21-June 21
Authenticity is said to be the key that cuts through the superfluous and the unnecessary. But staying rooted in authenticity requires energy, attention, and effort. Be true to yourself, honest about your concerns, and genuinely interested in others’ points of view. This stance may not be easy, especially if you want your own way, but it is a position of internal power.

Cancer June 22-July 22
You may not be able to find an immediate remedy for your situation, but the inability to find a quick fix shouldn’t stop you from continuing your efforts to create a peaceful resolution. First, stay present and assess the various points of view. Next, surrender the need for a specific outcome. Be honest about what you’re feeling. And finally, listen closely to your significant others, and consider their concerns as if they are your own.

Leo July 23-August 22
The emphasis is on finances, specifically how to balance your generosity of spirit and the desire to help others with a commitment to honor your own needs. Take your time with this process by considering your options and actions from a variety of perspectives. This isn’t about holding back or stifling your impulses; it’s about recognizing what motivates your desire to give and aligning it with your deepest values.

Virgo August 23-September 22
It’s never easy to face the fear of failure. Lots of folks believe their concerns of ruin are grounded in reality—and some are. But most of what scares us is our uncertainty about our ability to meet the challenge of success. There’s no need to be afraid of that challenge, because the true gift of courage is a deeper appreciation of who we can be when being true to ourselves.

Libra September 23-October 22
Be willing to turn the entire situation on its head and take a look at it from an upside down, topsy-turvy perspective. Yes…you’ll have to defy gravity for a moment or two—and some of those moments might be longer than anticipated. But if you’re willing to put aside what you think you already know and be open to what there is to learn, you’ll emerge from this process with great clarity.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
While it may seem as if you need almost superhuman strength to get through the situation you’re currently facing, vulnerability is the key to navigating this process successfully. You don’t have to share all your feelings with others, although that might be helpful. You simply have to be honest with yourself about what matters most, and then allow that clarity to motivate your thoughts, words and deeds.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
There are several opportunities to put your plans into motion, but there are also several requirements. First and most important, make a commitment to honoring your truth and your vision. Then, marshal your forces—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual—and aim your arrow at prioritizing your energy and efforts. Do your best inspire a team of joyful participants who will gladly work as hard as you do.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
A deep philosophical perspective is always an asset, whether things are falling apart or humming along with purpose. Either way, being able to place your situation in a thoughtful context can be helpful in facilitating consciousness. So take a moment or more to assess your circumstances, and ask yourself, “What is my spirit trying to learn from this?” Then listen closely as you answer.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
Rather than striving to control the situation and all the possible outcomes, let go and trust that everything you’ve already put in motion is working toward a beneficial outcome—even if it isn’t all you wanted or imagined it to be. I’m not advising you to prepare for failure; I’m simply suggesting that being confident in the efficacy of your efforts engenders a strong internal reality that can assist you in handling all sorts of outcomes.

Pisces February 19-March 20
The entire process is a balancing act—you’re attempting to manage the needs of friends, family and significant others as well as your own. This is not an easy task, but it is possible, especially if you’re willing to examine your need to control these relationships and instead let them find their own resolution. Yes, you may have greater clarity but sometimes that doesn’t matter. Each person must walk his or her own path.
