The Aquarium Age: Dec. 23-29

By Ralfee Finn

The next several days unfold with conflicting time signatures and sometimes the contrast is so stark, even the steadiest schedules are disrupted. Don’t be dismayed if you’re discombobulated and feel a little like the Mad Hatter. At certain points during the day, time may seem to stand still—for example, when you’re in a hurry and waiting for a train that never seems to arrive. At other intervals during the day, the seconds, minutes and hours fly by so quickly, you’re likely to panic because it feels as if there won’t be enough time to get everything done. It’s not quite a start-stop-start or a hurry-up-and-wait rhythm. But it is “retrogrady”. And it is not Mercury Retrograde playing mind games and screwing around with the time distortions. It’s Uranus, which goes direct on Christmas Day, and until it moves “forward”, daily life plays out at a peculiar pace.

When Uranus dominates the astral activities, the regular routines of daily life travel to the beat of a different drum. From a collective as well as an individual perspective, Uranus symbolizes an intense need for personal freedom and independence, and under its influence everyone is a maverick of one stripe or another. Uranus also signifies eccentricities, and its love of the odd is sure to show itself through odd gifts or no gifts—and everything in between. It’s definitely a wacky Christmas.

Also be aware that Uranus always affects nervous systems, and given that this is the season of stress, meltdowns are more than likely. Be especially kind to children, who look forward to Christmas with a frenzy few grownups can muster or remember—although some (and you know who you are) do.

It’s likely that erratic Uranian rhythms interfere with even the best-laid plans, making your best attitude a must. Some plans will go smoothly and some will falter. Patience is the key to handling the uncertainty of what works and what doesn’t. Keep in mind, electronic technology suffers during Uranus course corrections. Your smartphone may not be able to remember anything or your computer just won’t work. (Skype, anyone? It seems to be almost always in a Uranian frame of mind.) Try not to throw those new toys and gadgets out the window. Electronic devices will eventually come to their senses.

And there’s more: On Christmas Day, a Full Moon, in Cancer, ramps-up the already emotional high tides of the holiday, turning some interactions sticky with sentimentality, or disappointing with dashed expectations. Again, be patient with children. If you encounter obstacles, take as many deep breaths as necessary to get through the day with an open heart.

Also on Christmas Day and for the rest of the week, a Mercury/Mars square has the potential for more than a few bah-humbugs, as minds turn toward what’s wrong. But the good news—and there is always good news—is a Mercury/Jupiter trine that promises to fuel humor, and plenty of it. When possible, look for the cosmic joke, but try not to be funny at someone else’s expense.

The additional good news is a Venus/Jupiter sextile, which supports warm-hearted, harmonious interactions as well as good manners. And I would add: Be generous of spirit, especially to those fellow travelers prone to reacting to the intensity of Uranus and not as able to handle the stress. A stress overload often causes some of us to act out. Rather than be annoyed, be compassionate. Remember, we are all in this together and even if it doesn’t look like it, we are all doing as best we can.

Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
The brightest light continues to shine on your professional aspirations. Even if obstacles appear, let nothing interfere with your good intentions and goodwill—not even problems with partners, minor or major. Stay confident in your efforts and you’ll generate positive results.

Taurus April 20-May 20
Your gift from the sky is the potential for a deeply thoughtful as well as playful creativity that inspires others to be equally alive. Make the most of this moment by enjoying it. Remember, whatever we focus our attention on becomes our reality, and this is your chance to thrive on joy.

Gemini May 21-June 21
As always, you must choose: Brood over what isn’t “right” or delight in what’s working just fine. Sounds like a no-brainer, but you’ll need to exert a little effort to hitch your mind to the brightest star and allow yourself to accentuate the positive.

Cancer June 22-July 22
Humorous conversation is a probability, but do your best to stick to subjects that won’t irritate the already cranky. Of course, the temptation will be to prod and poke. But you could just as easily soothe and comfort, although kindness requires a little extra effort.

Leo July 23-August 22
The only time it’s difficult for you to be generous is when your feelings are hurt and you’re self-conscious about being so exposed. Don’t worry—very few realize the depth of your sensitivity. So slough off what doesn’t feel right, and let your innate generosity be an example to others.

Virgo August 23-September 22
Enjoy heartfelt conversation with family and friends, and allow those interactions to stimulate a new approach to old obstacles. Listen carefully to what’s said and you’ll be able to identify the hidden but nonetheless valuable messages contained in these exchanges.

Libra September 23-October 22
Avoid any potential conflict by simply refusing to engage. Assume the broadest perspective possible, a perspective that always includes the notion that time heals most wounds. Rather than react, try to respond and let the wisdom of your choice give others a chance to catch their breath.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
Be as socially engaged as possible. Whether that’s accepting invitations, reaching out to friends, or making plans with family. Whatever you choose, allow the healing balm of convivial interaction to refresh and revive your spirit. Yes…it’s been a long haul, but you can also have fun.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
It’s a wacky Christmas, but you love surprises, so don’t let little upsets interfere with your joy. Instead, find your funny—it’s one of your true gifts. And whatever transpires, smile through it. Don’t worry; this isn’t about preparing for something bad. It’s about finding a good attitude and holding on to it.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
Rather than worry over the details, turn your anxiety into a trust exercise. Focus your mental might on the idea that the universe is supportive and the twists and turns of your current situation are actually beneficial, even if you can’t quite identify the perks—yet.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
There’s plenty of support for a really good attitude, so let nothing interfere with your joy. If anything even looks like it might be a bummer, find your funny bone and keep massaging it until you dissolve in peals of laughter.

Pisces February 19-March 20
Let yourself relax with good friends and significant others and simply enjoy the last days of the year. There’s no need to put on your armor, and every reason to open to the love that can be shared among you. Remember, ‘tis the season to be jolly and joyous.
