On the Cover: J. Thomas Mulder

otc_0904Local Salt Lake City artist J. Thomas Mulder passed away just before Thanksgiving. (1939 – 2008)

Tom was a landscapist, known for his desert themes from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Greece and the American Southwest.

His paintings in acrylic and oil are noted for their rich application of paint and simplified forms. He lived much of his life in Salt Lake City. Mulder attended Nizam College in Hyderabad, India, and earned a BA from the University of Utah in 1957. He also attended the University of Illinois, the University of California at Fresno, and earned an MFA from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa in 1977. Mulder has been represented by Phillips Gallery, Sego Gallery and exhibited at the Utah Arts Festival for many years. He has work in the Springville Museum of Art permanent collection and the Salt Lake County art collection. He recently was honored with a retrospective exhibit at the Utah Arts Council’s Rio Gallery.

Until his death Mulder, lived in the Avenues of Salt Lake City (and was last years featured artist for their annual Street Fair) and maintained a studio at Captain Captain Studios. He is missed by his family, friends and fellow artists.

Captain Captain Studio Artists will host an art sale for the Late, Great Tom Mulder.
