January 3-9 — Slimming down

By Christopher Renstrom

I was born July 16, 1942 in Chicago. I’m working very hard via Weight Watchers to lose 30 pounds and reach my goal weight. Things are going very well right now. What can I expect this year?

There are zodiac signs that can scarf down everything in reach and never gain a pound and then there are zodiac signs that can tip the scale just by looking at a piece of chocolate cake the wrong way. Generally speaking it’s people who are born under Taurus and Cancer who have to struggle the hardest with their weight with Sagittarius and Pisces as close runners-up. Taurus and Cancer typically have a lower metabolic rate (unless their ruling planets are in air or fire signs) while Sagittarius and Pisces are ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter is famous for being the largest planet in our solar system which is why people born under these signs tend to be big. You’re a Cancer born with Jupiter in Cancer so you’re going to have weight issues. You will never be rail thin—nor should you be, because your body type is apt to be curvaceous. However there is a way to work with the planetary energies in your horoscope to reach your target weight.

I’m glad to hear that you’re working with a program like Weight Watchers. Going it alone with some fad diet isn’t wise. Cancers are emotional eaters which means that you turn to food for comfort. Deprivation only makes you fixate on the refrigerator and there’s no way you’re ever going to convince yourself that celery and carrots are yummy for the tummy. Moreover, your ruling planet, the Moon, rules over hearth and home. When you’re born under the planet of the nurturer, you naturally bond with people over food. One of the good things about Weight Watchers is that you diet together as a group. Instead of food being a divisive issue (other people can eat this but you can’t), food becomes the reason for getting together because you’re united by a common cause—which is to lose weight. Diets have always been a team sport. They’ve been bringing people together since Deuteronomy.

Now there may come a time when you outgrow this regimen and will want to meet with a nutritionist to set up a more flexible diet plan, but for now this is good because the Weight Watchers plan helps you to re-learn the way you eat. The Moon is connected to memories, feelings, and the unconscious so the force of habit is very strong with you. It’s only by redirecting your emotional association to food (through moderation and substitution) that you’ll be able to change your eating patterns. This takes time which is why I see you reaching your target weight in June 2010. June 2010 is also when there will be a lot more fire energy coursing through your horoscope. This will activate your Moon in Leo (Leo is a fire sign) thereby making it easier for you to burn calories and to keep the weight off.
