January 17-23 — Test-driving love

By Christopher Renstrom

I recently started seeing this amazing younger woman who I’m really into. I’m fairly sure that she’s into me too, but there’s this other guy (more her own age) who’s in the picture too. Can you advise me? I want to get an idea of where I stand and if this has the potential to be a long-term relationship despite our age difference. My birthday is 2/2/67. Her birthday is 10/30/87 and the other guy is 11/7/86. Thanks!

First of all you’re a very brave man to be going out with someone who’s twenty years younger than you. The problem with dating someone in her early twenties is that she really hasn’t completely grown into herself as a woman. She’s test-driving a lot of things in her life—like identity, career, and boyfriends. I’m sure that she’s a very sophisticated personality and probably comes across as being older than her years. Scorpio women usually do. But be careful because you may be looking to get serious about someone who’s shopping and not necessarily buying.

Love triangles are complicated. And if there’s another guy in the picture, it begs the question of whether she’s going out with you to get back at him or to get away from him. She may say that she only has eyes for you, but I wouldn’t believe it. Moreover you have some serious competition. The strongest pairings in astrology are between people who are born under the same sign or whose ruling planet falls in the same sign. She’s a Scorpio and the other guy is a Scorpio, so that already says that they’re pretty tight. When you throw in the added element that their ruling planet, Pluto, is also in Scorpio, it pretty much seals the deal. Nevertheless there’s still a reason why she sought you out. Scorpio on Scorpio energy can get intense, obsessive, and emotionally suffocating. She enjoys spending time with you because, being an Aquarius, you’re like a breath of fresh air.

It also helps that your Moon is in Scorpio (which is her sign) and her Moon is in Aquarius (which is your sign). Sun/Moon pairings between horoscopes are always good for emotional compatibility because it shows there’s a comfortable fit and that the two people can co-exist well. Sun/Moon pairings show up a lot in marriages, business partnerships, and creative collaborations. If she were older—perhaps 27 or 28—then I would say that your relationship stood a pretty good chance, but she’s at a point in her life when she can’t really discern the difference between passion and love, and she’s going to be making a lot of promises (and ultimatums) that she won’t be able to keep.

My advice would be to enjoy this as long as it lasts, but don’t pin your hopes on anything long term. As an Aquarius, you have a unique ability to see the spirit in the being, which is why I’m not too worried about you getting hurt. If anything, I think you’ll find that your time together is well spent, and even if you don’t remain lovers, you will always be friends.
