Environews: Utah #3 for toxic emissions

The Toxic Release Inventory issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ranks Utah #3 in the nation for total pound of toxic chemicals released into the environment (273,000,000 lbs).

The large volume is mainly due to waste from the Bingham Canyon Mine in the Oquirrh Mountains (201,000,000 lbs). According to the most recent compilation only Alaska and Nevada release a larger volume of toxic waste
