Sowing Spring Crops

Lettuce, radishes and peas, oh my!  This is a hands-on, in-person working lab in our demonstration and teaching gardens at the new Wasatch Community Gardens’ Campus.

Each student in this hands-on workshop will receive handouts on the basics of planting cool season crops including assorted greens, root crops, and peas.  As we work together to read seed packets and direct sow the seeds in our beds, we’ll discuss topics such as when to plant which crops, days to maturity, seed spacing, seed planting depth, and seed planting techniques such as single-row/furrow planting and wide-row/broadcast planting.  Every student will get to plant some seeds and some lettuce or kale seedlings during class.
