Ask the Astrologer: Will I find the career that’s right for me?

By Christopher Renstrom

I’m an Aquarius born on February 13, 1975 living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I have been trying to find a career that is right for me for 10 years now and I am still very unhappy and feel stuck. Will I ever find something I enjoy?

Aquarius is one of the few signs in Astrology that has two Ruling Planets—Saturn and Uranus. Saturn is the planet of rules and order and Uranus is the planet of revolution and change. When you have two Ruling Planets like you do, then you have to answer to both—even if what they’re asking from you appears contradictory.

Ten years ago Saturn formed a square to Uranus in the sky. Squares symbolize conflicts in Astrology and the best way to think of them is as two forces locked in an arm wrestling match. Each planet is trying to get the better of the other. In your case Uranus was traveling over your Sun in Aquarius, so the year 2000 was a time of terrific change and volatility—a sort of up-in-the-air; anything goes period. It looks like it was very exciting and also potentially upsetting. You may have felt like you were too “out there” and like you needed to get your feet back on the ground. Your other Ruling Planet, Saturn, was traveling through the more earthy and practical sign of Taurus in the year 2000. This would have directed your gaze towards a career move that promised a regular paycheck and where you wouldn’t have to worry about struggling to make ends meet. My feeling is that this is when you opted for money and security and that would have made perfect sense for where you were at the time.

However in the past few months you would have felt the need to connect with a higher purpose—or at least a truer purpose—and this feeling will intensify as you approach March 2011. Now the planets aren’t asking you to walk out on everything you’ve built, but they are urging you to be truer to yourself. My sense of things is that you’ve proven to yourself that you can make money and build a career. You’ve satisfied the more practical Saturn side of your personality. However yours is a creative and conceptual type of horoscope, so maybe it’s time to reinvent what you do at work or even to go into business for yourself? All you need is a vision of what you really want to do and a plan—even if it is only a rough sketch. If you can come up with these two things, then the whys and wherefores will take care of themselves. Ruling Planet Uranus enters the adventurous sign of Aries on March 12, 2011 and it will be there for seven years. This is a trailblazing type of energy and signals a new start for Aquarians everywhere. Where you want to go—and how far you want to go with your vision of what you would like to do in life—is entirely up to you. Give yourself the chance to pursue what you want and you’ll find that you’re more capable of putting all of this together than you ever imagined you could be.
