Ask the Astrologer: Time to retire?

By Christopher Renstrom

I have been an RN for over 25 yrs. My current job is very stressful. The providers have hired an efficiency expert who is taking alot of work from the doctors and giving it to me. A year ago I was diagnosed with kidney cancer and I’m trying to avoid stress but find it very difficult to get the energy to go to work every day. All I would like to do is retire and take care of my health. Do you see me retiring and if so when? If not, what can I do as I feel completely burned out. My DOB is 6/15/56.

Retirement looks like the way to go. You asked your question when the Sun was at 28 degrees Virgo forming an exact opposition to the Jupiter and Uranus conjunction at 28 degrees Pisces. Jupiter is a planet associated with hospitals (it rules over government agencies and philanthropic institutions) and Uranus is the planet of revolution and change. The conjunction (which means that Jupiter and Uranus were in the exact same place in the sky when you asked your question) shows that you are currently undergoing radical changes in your work environment. This is due to an overall re-structuring and though it was probably represented as something that would take place quickly, I suspect that this re-structuring is lasting longer than your superiors anticipated. This is due to the fact that Jupiter and Uranus were both retrograde at the time that you asked your question. Retrogrades often bring unforeseen complications, delays, and postponements. This workload that you’re describing doesn’t look like it will be lifting any time soon. In fact there’s good reason to believe that it’s going to get heavier, so this would be a good time to retire.

Now be forewarned that your superiors won’t be too happy about this because you are a valued member of the staff and they appear to be shorthanded. Nevertheless your health is your top priority right now and you really need to stand by that. It looks to me like you can retire some time between January 14, 2011 and February 8, 2011. This is when both Jupiter and Uranus will be out of retrograde and passing over the opposition points at 28 degrees Pisces.

Meanwhile I think the idea that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel (i.e. setting a retirement deadline) will do a lot to boost your energy and spirits. This will help you to get through the workday. However I would advise you to seek out some kind of personal counseling as you make this transition. You’re fortunate in that you were born with a very strong body, however my concern is that you are a Gemini with Ruling Planet Mercury in Gemini. Mercury is the planet of the mind and Gemini minds needs to be kept busy or they can start to worry and stress out. Start looking for ways to channel your mental energy in constructive ways (perhaps you want to explore some kind of visualization exercises, meditation workshops, or even yoga) so that the transition to your new life will be a joyous and empowering one.
