Aquarium Age

The Aquarium Age: Sept. 7-13

By Ralfee Finn

You may already be feeling the change in the astral weather—there’s a big shift this week as Jupiter enters Libra on Thursday, September 9, and as the planet of great good fortune changes Signs, our individual and collective focus changes with it. Bid Adieu to Virgo’s devotion to detail and all the niggling perfectionism that accompanies it.  And say Hel-lo to Libra’s passion for partnerships of every denomination, from spouse to lover to friend to just about any other interaction that requires intimate, vibrant connectivity.

Like I said: It’s a big shift. And powerful changes translate into big emotional reactions, so be prepared for lots of folks, including yourself, to be experiencing lots of feelings. Anticipate anxiety to be the dominant response, if only because we’re just beginning week two of Mercury Retrograde, in Virgo, a retrograde phase that lasts until September 21. And while Jupiter is shedding its concern with details, most of us are inundated with far too much to handle, and this move away from a detailed-oriented perspective could upset the ongoing retrograde review.

Jupiter’s change of Sign, and the resulting psychic and social adjustments that need to occur, are sure to disturb and disrupt the balance of power, individual and collective. Libra is, after all, symbolized by the scales, making it the Sign of balance. So it’s a sure thing that daily life, at least for the first month of Jupiter’s transit, will swing wildly to extremes. (I suppose this is hard to imagine, given that extreme is now the new normal.) Jupiter transits Libra until October 2017, which means there’s a lot of time to find, establish and maintain an equilibrium in any number of settings.

But—and this is a big but—Jupiter is the planet of excess, and its proclivity toward extremes is certain to make balance in general an ongoing issue for the next year. It might be wise to think of Jupiter, in Libra, as a fluid phase or process that allows for a wide range of small adjustments in the day-to-day.  It is also important to understand that many of those adjustments will be related to relationships of every configuration. I often remind Libra to think of relationship as a verb rather than a noun. A relationship is something you participate in, not a thing you own or possess. If you can wrap your head around relationship as an ongoing process, you’ll have a much easier time handling Jupiter’s journey through Libra—and just might learn something about handling the flux of intimacy.

So as the week unfolds, pay close attention to all your relationships. Notice where you swing to extremes, who or what you take for granted, or where and when you are judgmental or dismissive. Most importantly, contemplate how you can facilitate greater harmony in your day-to-day interactions with significant others.  A compassionate attitude coupled with a desire to demonstrate that kindness will help you to find and maintain your balance.

Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
Jupiter’s journey through your Solar House of relationship stimulates several processes simultaneously. Expect strong urges for a deeper connection to significant others, personal as well as professional. Also anticipate those strong longings to inspire new, more generous behavior. What’s more, you are likely to feel an equally intense desire to work for causes that unite people in the pursuit of social justice. Honor these impulses but try to keep your balance.

Taurus April 20-May 20
Jupiter’s transit through your Solar House of service and health invites you to pay closer attention to how you care for others as well as how you care for yourself. If you tend to put others’ needs before your own, use this phase to identify why. The ability to help others is an admirable quality, but not if it means denying your own needs or putting yourself at risk. Of course, the opposite might also be true, especially if you put your needs first. Remember, the key to this phase is balance.

Gemini May 21-June 21
Jupiter’s journey through your Solar House of creativity signals a new phase of self-expression, and while giving voice to your inspiration might mean taking a few unprecedented risks, in the long run it will be well worth the effort. Being true to what inspires often requires the courage to try something new—something that hasn’t been done before, and this means wrestling with the demon of uncertainty because you can’t see the outcome. That doesn’t mean you won’t be pleased with the results.

Cancer June 22-July 22
Jupiter journeys through the deepest part of your chart, the Solar House of the home, which I lovingly refer to as the bottom of the psychic pond, where the memories of childhood are stored and where we hold on to what we most need to feel safe. Jupiter is the planet of good fortune, so there’s no need to worry about trials and tribulations. Spend this benevolent currency wisely by making improvements on where you physically live as well as where you psychically dwell.

Leo July 23-August 22
Jupiter’s transit through your Solar House of communication means you are definitely talking—a lot—and even if you think you’re already loquacious, think again. Of course, some of those words could be spent writing, filling in the blank pages of a journal, or put to good use through essays, short stories or any other project that expresses ideas through language. Just keep in mind that authors often write about themselves because articulating what you think strengthens a sense of self.

Virgo August 23-September 22
Jupiter enters your Solar House of value, which holds money within its realm as well as self-esteem. Jupiter’s presence is likely to bring opportunities to improve your finances as well as your confidence. So while you may be sad that Jupiter is leaving your Sign, you can look forward to a year of expanded opportunity. The key to handling this next cycle skillfully is finding and maintaining your financial equilibrium in the midst of a flux that can easily tip to one side or another.

Libra September 23-October 22
Jupiter’s journey through your Sign is going to expand your horizons, which means you’re headed for a new view and a new perspective. Part of this process can be seen as a positive identity crisis, so rather than resist it, embrace this phase and let it help you feel better about simply being yourself. Also be prepared to be funny—or funnier than you already are. Jupiter symbolizes humor and when it transits your Solar House of personality, you can’t help but be a comedian.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
Jupiter transits your Solar House of the unconscious, stimulating dreams, visions, and increased awareness of the deep psychological patterns affecting your conscious choices. As you work your way through this phase, keep in mind that Jupiter is a benign, positive force. Yes, it can be excessive, which means you need to keep an eye on how you handle this process, but it’s essentially an expansive presence with the power to help you open your mind to yourself so that you can increase self-awareness.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
Jupiter, your Ruling Planet, journeys through your Solar House of community, expanding your connections and interactions, and inspiring greater participation with your fellow travelers. I’m not suggesting you lean to an extreme and devote yourself solely to others. I’m simply advising you to think about how to contribute to your world. You don’t have to start a movement or a church. Just be willing to consider if and how your presence might make a difference in the lives of others.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
Jupiter transits your Solar House of career for the next year, stimulating opportunities for you to expand your aspirations as well as your accomplishments. More than any one particular event, this phase is about having a positive attitude that is both optimistic and practical. As you attempt to find and maintain the balance between your ambitions and what you can actually achieve, rely on Jupiter’s good humor. The ability to be light of heart can have an exponentially beneficial effect.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
Jupiter enters your Solar House of belief systems, and because this is its natural placement in the Zodiac you’re likely to find yourself searching for new ideas and new ways to contextualize your experiences. Use this positive, expansive force to open up an entirely new universe of ideas. Be willing to travel, physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, and remember that balance is the key: You don’t have to surrender what you already believe. You just have to be open to other ideas.

Pisces February 19-March 20
Jupiter transits your Solar House of transformation, which means you’re in a dynamic phase of change. The best news about this Jupiterian process is that it’s sure to stimulate strong spurts of personal growth, especially if you’re open to self-improvement. Just be wary of quick-fixes that offer instant enlightenment through ten-second techniques that require little or no effort. Also try to avoid paths that promote tedious soul-dampening judgments. Find a balanced middle way and you’ll appreciate this journey.
