Aquarium Age

Aquarium Age: Sept. 18-24, 2019

By Ralfee Finn

Sometimes the best way to travel through turmoil and tumult is to assume a beginner’s mind, and rather than relying on hard-won wisdom born from actual experience, to rely instead on a fresh approach that makes no assumptions, and through the innocence of that perspective, assesses a situation without preconceptions. Beginner’s mind creates an openness that can lead to discoveries that may have been overlooked, ignored, or discarded by a more experienced eye. A dear friend calls it a “neglect not the obvious” mindset that allows you to see with fresh eyes what’s right in front of you; the unhidden and uncomplicated, unencumbered by bias. It’s the perfect mindset for this week and next, and for the many weeks ahead, because it ensures staying open to the possibility of transformation and we need that openness to find our way through the morass of issues that are right in front of us needing our attention.

This week we’re still under Saturn’s thumb, and its powerful presence generates both positive and negative potential. Saturn delineates boundaries and it can be a strict disciplinarian, critic, and judge. Yet Saturn also provides structure—it’s the bones or skeletal organization of everything.

Saturn goes direct today; it’s been retrograde since April 29. We’ve been in the deliberate pace of its “turn-around” for the last week, and this week that pace continues. I was going to write that Saturn Direct could add an element of stability to the regular routines of daily life but, really, that would be a ridiculous statement because nothing is stable right now and everyone feels the instability even if they can’t determine its source. What’s more, you don’t need an astrologer to figure that out.

Saturn is at the end of its trine to Mars—the signature that has provided so much strength and stamina to get things done these past two weeks. (Don’t worry; Pluto trine Mars continues this industrious current. See below.)

While nobody really likes any kind of Saturn square, the squares to Mercury and Venus that start this week offer practical and strategical assistance. The square to Mercury is about critical thinking—seeing what needs to be adjusted or amended in your plans and projects, and not being so quick to say yes just because it sounds good or to accept ideas before thinking about the consequences of putting those ideas in motion. The square to Venus is about bringing creative ideas down to earth as well as being clear and precise about financial matters.

As Saturn moves forward, it moves inexorably toward its conjunction with Pluto on January 12, 2020. Be prepared to feel a steady undertow that’s probably the closest any of us will get to experiencing a tractor beam pulling us into the mothership. Resistance to the pull of this conjunction is futile, but resistance to its contractive force is not. The goal of the next several months, as Saturn and Pluto close ranks and tighten their grip, is for those of us interested in transforming the pernicious effect of this interaction to figure out how to use its superpowers for the good. While I know it won’t be easy to rise up and out of the quagmire we’ve been stuck in for so long, this Saturn/Pluto conjunction does provide the capacity to reach for the highest good, but only through the rigorous discipline of putting selfish interests aside. And that won’t be easy.

Pluto continues to trine Mars and the Sun, creating a power field that could pose some problems, especially if egos are left unchecked. Pluto trine Mars provides a tremendous amount of physical strength and power, as does Pluto trine the Sun. But the combination of all three has the potential to awaken an appetite for power and control or to amplify a desire for more power in those who already have too much. Mr. Trump and his Gang of Hungry Ghosts immediately come to mind—they will forever be emblematic of the abuse of power—but I can’t dip into their energy field this week; I need to keep the air clean, as I am sure you do, if only to sustain my beginner’s mind.

This week, try to embrace the idea of a fresh perspective, especially when it comes to the state of the world. We’ve been in a mess for so long that it’s hard to imagine an end to it, and yet we are still here, and with each egregious act, more and more of our fellow travelers are inspired to join the revolution. There’s no clear optimistic picture of what lies ahead because there are still so many minds and hearts that need to shift into a positive perspective. But one thing is certain: we are in the lead-up to the United States Pluto Return, or the American Revolution 2.0, which is exact in 2022. Pluto’s transformational power can be felt well ahead of its primary contact, so if you’re wondering why we are in the midst of so much continuous destabilization, think Pluto and its unrelenting quest for authenticity. As what lies beneath the surface of daily life continues to be revealed, we’re being asked to integrate our truest principles. It’s not easy work, but it’s essential. So seek a fresh perspective and help others do the same. We are all in this process together and we need each other to make it through.

Sun Bursts:  If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
A fresh perspective on health would be a perfect way to handle the stress you’ve been wrestling with for such a long time. So give yourself permission to meditate a little longer, exercise a little more, eat a little healthier, and be sure to make all those check-up appointments you’ve been putting off because you’ve been too busy.

Taurus April 20-May 20.
It’s a lot of hard work, but you’ve never been one to turn down an opportunity just because it would require strength, stamina, and smarts. Seize this moment but also pace yourself—this is a marathon process you’re in the midst of and it is going to require a strategy that can unfold over time with each plot twist.

Gemini May 21-June 21
Take a deep breath—there is actually a bit of relief this week, as you manage to work your way through several challenges. I’m not suggesting that every problem is solved; I’m simply pointing out that some of the bigger issues that have required constant care and attention are sorting themselves out, which means you get to take a deep breath and exhale slowly.

Cancer June 22-July 22
All those conversations you’ve been having over the last several weeks culminate this week and while I can’t promise that every problem will be resolved, you have a lot more information than you had before—and knowledge is power. Personal growth isn’t a competitive sport, so take your time as you integrate and apply the data.

Leo July 23-August 22
Whichever way you slice the energy pie this week it’s a win/win for you. You can either spend your time bolstering your finances or you can engage in thoughtful, creative conversations that allow you a different perspective on an old situation—or both. Just remember to be generous with others and your time and effort will return exponentially.

Virgo August 23-September 22
It would be beneficial to filter your recent leadership experiences through the lens of a fresh perspective in the hope of identifying the weaknesses you want to leave behind and the strengths you want to take with you into the next phase. This is not an invitation to self-criticism; it’s an opportunity to learn and grow—and what could be wrong with that?

Libra September 23-October 22
Of course balance is important, and for you it’s absolutely essential. But sometimes things need to get a little wacky and out of balance so that we can figure out what’s next. So don’t be surprised if your equilibrium is disturbed—life isn’t falling apart; the universe is assisting you in identifying what’s working and what isn’t.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
Try not to let a flood of feeling throw you into a tailspin. Yes, there are a lot of emotions coloring your perception, some of which have been lingering for a while and some that seem new and more important. I’m not saying the new things aren’t significant, but old, resentful feelings will continue to be a problem if you don’t figure out how to let them go.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
I am at a loss about advice to offer this week, if only because it’s not clear where you might best aim a fresh perspective. The first place that comes to mind is work and money, but the runner-up, and it could be a tie, is self-esteem. Take a moment to assess your gifts and talents and be sure to concentrate on what you do well because that’s the basis of your true value.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
You are moving forward, not quite at the speed of light, but certainly supported by a powerful engine. As you feel the momentum build, trust your intuition and make your course corrections on the basis of your gathered wisdom as well as on your hunches. Not every choice may pan out but several are brilliant and have the potential to yield positive, tangible rewards.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
The good news is that there just isn’t time for negative thinking, so it’s not possible to be captured by a brain worm and held hostage to a judgmental pattern. The best news is that a fresh perspective will help you to discover solutions to several persistent problems that you haven’t been able to remedy.

Pisces February 19-March 20
You must admit you’ve been enjoying all the interactions with significant others—spouses, partners, friends, and family—because time spent with those you love is the most precious time of all. As other interactions take up your time, imagine they are part of your extended family: not as familiar, perhaps, but nonetheless important.
