This week, Mars moves into a square with Saturn, and right after that Mars will also square Pluto. As these three kings face off, they inflame all manner of interactions, producing an aggressive, belligerent atmosphere where everyone seems to be itching for a fight. Some battles will be worth fighting, especially if those interactions are about taking a stand for those who cannot stand for themselves. But you’ll need to stay clear about what battles you’re willing to engage in and why. One thing you might want to avoid is fighting simply for the sake of it. Figure out how to soothe yourself and those you care about so you can avoid escalating a molehill into a mountain.

The current astrological overview continues to focus on the mounting tension produced by the Saturn/Pluto conjunction that will be exact on January 12, 2020. As Mars squares both those planets, the political situation is only going to worsen. Be prepared for the intensity to intensify. This week, as Mars heats up Saturn and Pluto, we can expect even more political posturing coupled with the will to put those postures in motion. Syria may just be the beginning. My words are not meant to frighten; they are intended as a warning—if you know that even the air is posed for battle, you can do your best to stay as calm, cool, and collected as possible.

Also try to be aware that taking the spiritual high ground isn’t only about making nice—sometimes it’s more compassionate to deliver bad news than to withhold the truth. To heal anything, from an illness to an attitude, you must go to the core, to the causal level, see what is misaligned, and then painstakingly realign whatever has been affected. The extreme astrological configurations of our times have led us to a significant point in personal and planetary healing—we can no longer ignore where we are polarized within ourselves, preaching love one minute and wishing revenge on someone the next.

The current astrological configuration of Saturn and Pluto is an invitation to evolution: to make it through, we must learn to put aside our differences and find our common ground. To accept this challenge of evolutionary transformation, we must be aware of what needs to shift. We are witnessing daily all the places in need of healing, within ourselves and in our world. Finding the resolve to persist in co-creating positive solutions isn’t about pretending that it will just be okay someday; co-creation is about aligning word and deed—this dimension is where we turn the Karmic Wheel and it takes great, persistent effort to reweave the old, red threads of unconscious behavior.

Here’s the good news: There are many movements everywhere on the planet that are rising to the occasion and plenty of our fellow travelers are taking personal and planetary healing seriously. Legions of young people are organizing into action. My hope is that eventually these movements will join together, share their common goals for the good of all sentient beings, and help us to reach critical mass—the moment when consciousness shifts and a new paradigm emerges. If there isn’t a website organizing all these efforts, there should be, so we could easily access the positive information we need to keep moving forward.

As always try to make compassion your constant companion, and when possible be kind to your fellow travelers. Any one of us could be the Hundredth Monkey.

Sun Bursts:  If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
It’s important to follow your intuition but it is equally important to question your impulses. Sometimes exploitative machinations masquerade as altruistic intentions, fooling even the best to think their motives are pure. So listen to your heart, but be absolutely honest with yourself about what you desire.

Taurus
 April 20-May 20.
Choose your words carefully and you’ll avoid igniting difficult conversations you might later regret. For the most part, your innate reticence kicks in, keeping you from saying things in the heat of the moment. But sometimes blurting can’t be helped. Keep it to a minimum and you will avoid starting a fire.

Gemini May 21-June 21
It’s an emotionally volatile week and because of that it’s pretty easy to be swept away by strong feelings and the need to act on them. I’m not suggesting you deny what’s important or stifle your need to tell your truth; I’m simply advising you to consider that your listeners may also be emotionally sensitive.

Cancer June 22-July 22
You can fight with significant others or find the solid ground of positive compromise. But given that your dissatisfaction with some of your partner’s behavior has been brewing for a while, being compassionate may not be easy. Own your emotional charge by being honest and you’ll clear the air.

Leo July 23-August 22
Your roar can be heard for miles and miles, so before you give yourself permission to have a tantrum, consider the consequences of a meltdown. I’m not saying you should sit or squelch your feelings, but it might be wise to remember that you are human, with as many flaws as your fellow travelers.

Virgo August 23-September 22
Contemplate how you measure your true value: is it on the basis of your material possessions? Career accomplishments? Looks? As you make your assessment remember that ultimate value can only be measured by the goodness of your heart, so take a good look at how you love and then decide.

Libra September 23-October 22
It’s not easy being ruler of the world, which is the role Mars is urging you to assume. Even though the world might be better off with you at the helm, it’s a big responsibility to run everything. Think about what you’re comfortable taking on and then let the rest go. No one—not even you—needs to carry that weight.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
There is so much in your head that needs to be said and not a lot of safe places for you to just let it flow. Much of what needs to be expressed is simply general frustration about the state of your world. But when it comes to the state of our world, some of what you say could provide content and perspective for others.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
It might be wise to avoid an all-out battle with anyone regarding money, if only because everyone is prickly and looking for a way to spend that extra energy—and a fight over a buck would be the perfect excuse. Instead, figure out your situation and then just stick to what you can afford.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
There is more than enough for you to handle so try not to take on any additional responsibilities, especially tasks you’re adding on as a kindness for others. I know I usually advise kindness as a first choice, but if you take on more than you can handle, kindness won’t be what you’re feeling.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
Last week’s mantra—nothing is impossible—served you well, but this week, you need slightly more discrimination. The sky is still the limit, but you have to decide if you really want to travel to outer space. Be realistic about what you want to accomplish and then marshal your forces to accomplish those goals.

Pisces February 19-March 20
You could feel a need to retreat from intense social interactions, and while that won’t protect you from essential daily encounters, hunkering down in a safe place might be the best remedy. I’m not advising that you withdraw or disassociate. I’m suggesting that knowing your limits might be a good way to handle the stress.
