The chasms of opposing perspectives continue to widen this week, and while these astounding gaps in attitude continue to create profound psychic tension, individual as a well as collective, these very same crevasses in consciousness also continue to awaken those still asleep at the wheel of life. It’s not easy to feel powerful and effectual in a world that seems to have been taken over by evil aliens with self-serving intentions—didn’t we defeat those parasitic bastards in Independence Day? Still, the recognition of the intense toxicity that’s been brewing beneath the surface of daily life is valuable information. And holding the awareness of that toxicity until all of the underhanded undercurrents and ruthless strategies have been revealed is what we are being asked to do. As Angeles Arrien once wrote (and I am paraphrasing here), the longer one can hold the tension of opposites, the more of what needs to be healed is revealed.
The dominant astrological source of tension this week is the separating opposition between Mars, in Gemini, and Saturn, in Sagittarius. Mars signifies the warrior, Saturn represents the expert, and their current polarization is best understood as a war of ideals as well as ideas. While the battles of this war are mostly fought with words, last week, as the tension from this Mars/Saturn opposition increased, we witnessed increasing and horrifying physical brutality by those who feel empowered to use sheer brute force against those with different religious practices. We were also witness to Mr. Trump pushing other world leaders out of his way. My heart goes out to parents who must explain to their children why Mr. Trump’s blatant support of violence is wrong. What’s more, I can’t imagine how difficult it is to explain to a child why we are in this mess in the first place. With the fate of the planet hanging in the balance, who would’ve thought that the test for survival of the fittest would come down to the ability to discern the difference between fact and fiction?
The Mars/Uranus sextile continues this week as well, but with a slight shift. Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, conjuncts Uranus and their perfect union sextiles Mars and trines Saturn. This bundle inspires spontaneous acts of amorous infatuation—it’s simply a lusty combination in search of the erotic thrill of romantic attraction! Don’t hesitate to fall in love, but also be aware of the Venus/Uranus Rule: Marry in haste, repent at leisure. The Saturn trine does add a touch of stability to those dramatic desires, but don’t let that fool you. Have fun, but don’t expect these liaisons to be more than passing fancies.
Jupiter is still holding steady at 13 degrees Libra in preparation for going direct on June 9. And while that preparation usually means regular routines tend to be as slow as molasses, because Jupiter is, after all, Jupiter—the planet of excess and expansion—and although it’s holding fast, it’s also busy trining the Sun. We love this because it’s a positive interaction with the power to ease some of the stresses of the week.
Unfortunately, we are also in the thrall of a Sun/Neptune square, a fractious interaction that feeds a high degree of susceptibility to cons of all kinds. This square lasts until June 12, and even though twelve days doesn’t seem like a long time, the power of Neptune to skew the information-seeking Sun, in Gemini, toward deceit and self-deception cannot be denied. The spin is going to get laid on thick. Think twice before you agree to anything that sounds too good to be true.
Holding that tension of opposites is hard soul work, and whether it manifests as a personal process that requires swallowing pride and saying “I am wrong,” or a political process that relentlessly searches for the ways and means of authentic compromise, it takes a toll. Sometimes that toll is physical, and other times it is mental, emotional, or psychological. And this is true across the holographic spectrum of opposites. If you are one of the many holding that tension, you may be feeling the stress quite keenly. But don’t give up. Your efforts, combined with the efforts of many more of our fellow travelers around the world, will eventually find viable, compassionate and effective solutions to right the wrongs that are being committed in the name of greed and agreed to in the name of fear and anger. Don’t give up. But also take care of yourself because you will need strength to maintain your energetic progress in the good.
Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.
Aries March 21-April 19
The world is your oyster, so seize the moment and make the best of the opportunities that are opening up. I’m not suggesting that the week will provide a miracle cure for all that ails, but I am advising you to stay present for creative openings that have the power to move you in a more positive and successful direction.
Taurus April 20-May 20
Grab the tiger of your uncertainty by the tail and refuse to be bogged down by anxiety about potential interference. Stay in the moment, be humble in the face of what needs to be accomplished, and then simply get to work on what needs to be done next. You will eventually find an efficient pace that produces results.
Gemini May 21-June 21
There are real possibilities for you to be a dazzling presence by virtue of your creativity. Let your brilliant light shine brightly and allow yourself to be comfortable in the spotlight. And as you bask in the attention, try to shine your light on those you love—they will benefit from being included.
Cancer June 22-July 22
Your mood shifts dramatically this week as you move out of brooding over what should be and into active manifestation of your vision. Remember the first rule of magic: Whatever we focus our attention on becomes our reality. As you take the next steps keep a clear and keen intention about what you want to create.
Leo July 23-August 22
Make the time to take a thorough look at what you have put in motion. Just be aware, this is not a retrograde review—this is taking stock so you are able to manage the growing acceleration of your efforts. I’m not guaranteeing the success of every project, but I am certain you will experience the uplift of positive progress.
Virgo August 23-September 22
Be confident that despite the difficult tension of the collective mood, you’re actually in a good place to move forward in a positive direction. This is not magical thinking (although I think a little magic goes a long way toward lifting a dreary mood). This advice is about realizing the tangible gains of co-creating your reality.
Libra September 23-October 22
Your efforts to find positive solutions to pressing family matters are successful. But try not to shift your attention away from those issues too quickly. Your contribution is still needed, and if you stay present through the process, you will be able to ensure a positive outcome for everyone—not just you—and that will shift the pattern going forward.
Scorpio October 23-November 21
It’s not so much a matter of acting quickly—although that’s part of the puzzle. It’s about trusting your intuition and acting on your hunches even if they seem a little bit unconventional. You don’t have to be completely eccentric, but the courage to travel to the beat of a different drum will yield surprising and beneficial results.
Sagittarius November 22-December 21
It’s a choice: Allow the opinions of others to interfere with your decisions and waste time second guessing yourself…or examine your choices with an eye toward finding any weakness in your structure. This isn’t about fault-finding; it’s about building a strong foundation that can tolerate the stress of what you are creating.
Capricorn December 22-January 19
Have the courage of your convictions and the strength to share your opinions even if your ideas meet with opposition. If you can do your best to avoid all attempts, yours or others’, to turn the situation into a competition, you will emerge from this process having provoked a significant and valuable dialogue—and that will make a difference for everyone.
Aquarius January 20-February 18
You can be disappointed about the outcome or you can find the strength and stamina to continue working toward your goals. This may not be an easy decision, especially if you were surprised by the criticism. But if you take the time to examine the entire situation, you’re likely to discover that it’s still a good idea and worth your efforts.
Pisces February 19-March 20
Instead of apologizing for your sensitive nature, own it. Give yourself permission to wear your heart on your sleeve and allow everyone to see the depths of your feelings. But don’t confuse feelings with truth—stay present for the deeper currents that give rise to those emotions and then let the awareness of those causes inform the next stage of personal work.
