It’s finally here: Uranus entered Taurus on May 15 and now we get to find out what really happens—how the planet of revolution will revolutionize our lives yet again. Take a good look around because it’s likely that seven years from now the landscape of life—and maybe the actual terrain—will have changed dramatically. Some, but not all, of the predictions about our future world, shaped by Uranian twists and turns and illuminated by its lightning bolts, may actually come true. But it would be wise to prepare for unforeseen shifts, some seismic, others quantum, but all having a multidimensional influence on our world, including our parallel universes, which daily seem to be simultaneously pulling apart as well as overlapping. The polarization around the globe is happening so dramatically and dynamically that it’s impossible to predict what will happen next. For instance, who would have thought that George Will would be an ally in this brave new world? (If you haven’t read his Washington Post piece on Mr. Pence, it is something to behold and appreciate. Here’s the link. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/trump-is-no-longer-the-worst-person-in-government/2018/05/09/10e59eba-52f1-11e8-a551-5b648abe29ef_story.html)
Over the last couple of weeks as Uranus approached its entry into Taurus, lots of people experienced increased stress as old issues seemed to present themselves anew and new issues compounded anxieties about almost everything—old, new and not yet in existence. These tremors are likely to continue for quite a while as we adjust to the new astral frequency. Uranus symbolizes nervous systems—personal and collective—and as it moved, most if not all of us were on overload, and we still are. The best physical examples of our collective Uranian stresses are the volcanic eruptions and earthquakes that seem to be occurring everywhere, but especially along the Ring of Fire and Hawaii, most hard hit so far. (I’m writing this on Sunday, May 13, and by the time you read this, Kilauea may have erupted again.) I’m not sure it’s possible to characterize these eruptions as a direct result of Uranus’ entry into Taurus, but they are certainly a physical manifestation of what’s been churning and burning inside many hearts and minds.
As Uranus entered Taurus it formed a conjunction to Mercury, also in Taurus, and both were in a square to Mars, which occupied the final degree of Capricorn, wrapping up a dynamic and aggressive Martian cycle that began on March 23. Mars is now ending its transit through Capricorn—it entered Aquarius today, May 16. But—and this is important—as Uranus moved into Taurus, its square to Mars tightened and was nearly exact (barely 13 minutes away). The position of Mars speaks to the tone of this first Uranian phase: Mars/Uranus squares are restless astral spirits that stir a need to fight just for the sake of blowing off excess energy. This square is the freedom fighter—the rebel with or without a cause—who needs to vent regardless of the consequences.
Unfortunately, this week as the sky unfolds its majesty and mystery, the Mars/Uranus square continues, so be prepared for a fair degree of aggressive energy that wants to spend itself in a brawl. You can harness the power of this square by channeling it into ambitious undertakings and spending its energy creatively, despite any controversies erupting around.
Uranus also made its entry into Taurus under the auspicious presence of a New Moon that was in a trine to Pluto, signaling the potential for a powerful new cycle and insuring that whatever is planted during this New Moon phase, as well as this new Uranian phase, will have the stamina and strength to blossom.
I’ve been listening to David Bowie the last few weeks, and the newest musical brain worm is Under Pressure, with Freddie Mercury. As I watch the news and scroll through social media, I keep hearing them singing This is ourselves under pressure. I suppose if there’s any chance of making contact and negotiating an intervention with friendly aliens, Mr. Bowie is probably the best choice and the one to do it—he was, after all, channeling that contact long before he returned to the spirit world. (Who knows? Contact might be easier from that dimension.) I’m hoping for an intervention, even if it’s a Doris Lessing Shikasta intervention, which I think we’re actually already in the midst of. (It’s a great read and too long to synopsize here.) We may not have put the old guard on trial yet, but we know enough about their crimes. And we are actually quite close to achieving the critical mass necessary to move into new, innovative ways of coping with our global situation. In the meantime…we can give love one more chance, even if it is such an old-fashioned word, because love does dare each of us to change the way we care. Be kind to your fellow travelers—it’s the best remedy for what ails.
Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.
Aries March 21-April 19
You’re free—yes, completely free to be yourself—but there’s one thing you need to do: Turn your internal obstacles to that freedom over to a higher power that can help you manage this new phase. I’m not suggesting you join a recovery program; I’m simply advising you to assume a humble stance and let that guide you on your path to freedom.
Taurus April 20-May 20
Moderation is the best antidote to stress, especially at this particular cosmic moment when you might be tempted to swing wildly to extremes. Of course, extremes aren’t really your thing, but the winds of Uranian change are powerful and they are sure to move you into uncharted territory. The best way through is to stay steady inside as a way of coping with what might be overwhelming.
Gemini May 21-June 21
You’re at risk for dramatic mood swings, especially the temptation to just stay angry about what’s wrong. Rather than devolve into tirades you might later regret, use your innate curiosity to light a path through the current emotional landscape. It won’t be easy keeping your cool, but even making the effort will yield beneficial results.
Cancer June 22-July 22
It’s important to focus on what will nourish you through this current journey—and this is not just about food, although a good, healthy diet is one of the components. You also need to think about what and who will feed your mind, heart and spirit. But try not to be too quick to rely on the tried and true—part of what you’re craving is the fresh taste of something new.
Leo July 23-August 22
What’s required is a different mindset—a perspective you haven’t previously considered because it didn’t fit with the other pieces of the puzzle. It’s time to bump up to a new level of creative visualization. Give all the naysayers in your mind a vacation and retire all your specific plans about how things should be. And then breathe the air of what it feels like to be absolutely free to be.
Virgo August 23-September 22
What I am about to say is true for everyone, but right now it is especially true for you. The secret to traversing the dynamic shifts is to align body, mind and spirit with thought, word and deed. This is no easy task and no one expects you to perform it overnight or even perfectly. What’s important is the process, if only because it will help you establish and maintain your integrity.
Libra September 23-October 22
The solace you’re seeking can’t be found through another person, although significant others, friends or family can help. What you’re longing for—that unconditional love and acceptance—is something you can learn to give yourself, especially if you’re willing to release old habits that keep you tethered to selfish behavior. Put others’ needs before your own and you’ll start the shift.
Scorpio October 23-November 21
While it’s never easy staying true to yourself in the midst of so much turmoil, these days it’s more important than ever to stay in your integrity and honor your principles. So even if others are urging you to abandon your plans, before you take such a bold leap in a different direction, consider whether the long-term consequences will be worthwhile.
Sagittarius November 22-December 21
You’re wearing two hats through this next phase—you are learning and teaching, and although it might be awkward moving between those two roles, you’ll have plenty of time to make any necessary adjustments. That being said, try to be prudent when you dispense advice—there are so many waves of change occurring at the same time, it’s important to forego assumptions.
Capricorn December 22-January 19
It might be wise to make balance your mantra—and no, I am not confusing you with Libra. The reason for this is simple: When you find yourself in the middle of a river that just keeps flowing, staying steady through the stream requires maintaining a skillful balance that isn’t easily disturbed by the ebb and flow of the water. It won’t be easy to achieve, but it will be worth the effort.
Aquarius January 20-February 18
Against all odds, and even as Mars moves into your Sign, it’s important to keep the peace. And not just because peace suits your altruistic personality, but because if you can avoid extremes and stay steady through the changes, people will admire your leadership and support your ideas and efforts. So breathe as often as necessary to get grounded and stay focused.
Pisces February 19-March 20
The remedy for lethargy is passion—that’s right…desire is the cure for what ails, but you have to be careful about where you spend your fire because you want to make sure you don’t burn yourself out. Before you spend your enthusiasm on any one particular project, consider which of those endeavors will feed your spirit. Don’t confuse this with selfishness—it’s hard won wisdom.
