Aquarium Age

Aquarium Age: June 6 – 12

By Ralfee Finn

Disparate astral interactions stretch the boundaries between idealism and pragmatism this week. In one dimension, it’s completely probable to be dreamy, while in another, it’s equally probable to be cynical. In yet another parallel universe, facts are ignored or fudged for personal profit, but in the universe right next-door facts are the currency of clarity. Not that any of these differing realities are new news, but some of us have held the stretch between fact and fiction for so long, our mind-muscles are growing fatigued from the rigors of traversing the vast expanse of possible realities every day. But don’t give up just yet—it’s not quite time to sing Strawberries Fields, where nothing is real. Some situations are very real and they need very real solutions, solutions that provide conscious, caring, common sense remedies to help those in need.

The astrology for the week delineates this multidimensional perspective.

(1) A Sun/Mercury conjunction, in Gemini, inspires a need for information. Gemini is the Sign of communication as well as intellectual curiosity—Mercury is Gemini’s Ruling Planet and when any planet is in its Home Sign all its qualities are amplified, so anticipate that many will be questing for facts and information. That being said, a Sun/Mercury conjunction—in any Sign—tends to skew facts toward a subjective point of view, making it important to interpret those facts as freely as possible from personal interest.

(2) That Sun/Mercury conjunction squares Neptune, in Pisces, and because Neptune rules imagination and illusion, this square easily encourages deception. We only need to check the headlines—or better yet the tweets—to see the strength of this influence. We’ve been under its thumb since the start of the month, and although Mercury pulls slightly ahead by June 10, we aren’t entirely free from it until June 14.

(3) We’ve also been under the influence of a Jupiter/Neptune trine for the last several weeks. Jupiter is currently retrograde, in Scorpio, until July 10 when it goes direct. Last week, both Jupiter and Neptune formed a Grand Trine to Venus, stimulating imaginations and inspiring expansive thoughts of love. Venus moves on this week, leaving the trine between Jupiter and Neptune. Trines always indicate positive interactions, and as Venus pulls away, we move out the more sensual expression of love and into a more general altruistic love—the Jupiter/Neptune trine on its own symbolizes a mystical expression of love that is essentially unconditional.

Of course, it might be difficult to imagine that the Jupiter/Neptune trine has any power at all, especially given current events around the globe and the implementation of horrific policies by Mr. Trump and his Gang of Hungry Ghosts. But it is also important to notice just how many people are rising to the occasion of passionate, active altruism and actually helping in situations where they may not have helped before.

Neptune Retrograde begins on June 18 and as it meshes with Jupiter Direct on July 10, both planets stay within close range of each other until they form exact contact on August 19. Also be aware that any combination of Jupiter and Neptune feeds addictive appetites so if you are challenged by bingeing of any kind you might want to stay hypervigilant about finding healthy ways of soothing your cravings.

I must admit I succumbed to the influence of Jupiter/Neptune this past weekend, when I decided to self-soothe by binge watching The West Wing. I know The West Wing is fiction and ancient history, but I was so fed up with the news of yet one more egregious act emanating from the White House that I had to ease my Trump Fatigue. Some of you may remember that when George W. Bush stole his first Presidential Election, I couldn’t listen to anything but the Beatles for a year. It’s been a little harder finding a remedy for Mr. Trump because he presents an even more dangerous agenda and staying present for his shenanigans is essential but soul-wearying.

My tired brain and heart were longing for a time when as a collective we valued smart people in the White House enough to have a television series about them.  Here’s what I learned from indulging my fantasy: nothing has changed. The issues are exactly the same nearly twenty years later. From white extremists to partisan politics to nuclear threats to poverty to a pervasive misunderstanding of what government ought to do and provide for its citizens to lying in order to obscure the truth to religious wars and tribal differences to racism, sexism, and spin, all continue to be potent issues. I was actually stunned. But that didn’t stop me from communing with fictitious people, people in power who care about their fellow humans—and it did the trick. Whatever your opinion about the fast-talking dialogue, it was great to hear CJ talking to the press about things that matter and know that they mattered to her. In later seasons that may change, but for right now, I’m making it my drug of choice—perhaps it will be my gateway drug to optimism.

As you work your way through this week, keep in mind that by the June 13 Mars starts to slow down in preparation for its retrograde that begins on June 26. With that slow down, we’ll get a glimpse of what the Retro Summer of 2018 will feel like. It’s also important to remember that good things are happening everywhere because the more we keep that in mind, the easier it is to tolerate the difficulties. Here’s a link to a heart-warming story that’s real—not fiction—an inspiring video about how people endure the harsh realities on this planet and how their story can inspire transformation.

Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
Find healthy ways of maintaining a positive attitude and you’ll manage the intensities of the week with skill and maybe even a little bit of grace. Remember, whatever you focus your attention on becomes your reality, so rather than brood about a bad situation—yours or others’—make energetic progress in the good and find a way to make your contribution make a difference.

Taurus April 20-May 20
Rather than feeling stretched by all the stretches necessary to survive daily life right now, put your mind towards finding a way to synthesize these seemingly polarized positions into a unified approach to all of it. And yes, that is a tall order, but yes, again, you’re up to the task, especially if you’re willing to stretch into a holistic point of view that sees opposites as complements.

Gemini May 21-June 21
Don’t be surprised if you feel overwhelmed or depleted—you give so much to each situation that you often find yourself over-extended. Your ‘normal’ remedy for exhaustion is to withdraw and let sluggishness take over, but that wouldn’t be the best choice right now. Instead of succumbing to inertia, find a way to renew your enthusiasm—it won’t take long to feel better.

Cancer June 22-July 22
Sometimes it’s necessary to take a stand for what you value even if that means standing out from the crowd and being seen. And that’s the challenge you’re facing right now: believing in your principles enough to hold fast and not back down from what you know to be true even if that stand engenders opposition. Have the confidence to believe in yourself and trust your values.

Leo July 23-August 22
Give yourself permission to call time out on any situation that might get you entangled in an ongoing struggle about something that’s actually not that important to you. There are many opportunities in the coming weeks to get upset about a lot of things, and while it feels good to feel righteous, you want to avoid the trap of being self-righteous. Humility is the best option.

Virgo August 23-September 22
Wisdom is born from experience, as is the way we share what we’ve learned. At this moment, it’s important to acknowledge your accumulated wisdom and step into the leadership role. Just remember that a true leader leads by example. Do your best to make sure that your thoughts, words and deeds are aligned with your intention and you’ll inspire others to follow your lead.

Libra September 23-October 22
The truth is always the best answer because it really does set you free, so rather than pretend, be honest about who you are and what you desire. I’m not suggesting that you’ve been dishonest, I’m simply pointing out that any efforts at pretense are useless. The lesson to be learned from this truthfulness is that being true to yourself will help you to handle just about any situation.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
Set your priorities, personal and professional, so that you can ensure your time and energy are well spent. The next several weeks are busy with a variety of tasks, large and small, and you’ll need to know what to tackle first. While it’s impossible to predict any emergencies that might need immediate attention, if you’ve already identified your goals, you’ll be able to handle any surprises.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
You’ve been on quite a journey of self-discovery, and while that is a never-ending journey, you’re at a point along the path to take a deep look into just how much you’ve transformed. Of course, you may feel as if nothing has changed—and that may be true—but one of the ways to assess the effect of personal growth, is to compare past behavior to present responses.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
The emphasis is on passion—finding yours and being true to it—so don’t hesitate to explore what lights your fire. And I’m not just talking about sexual passion. It’s time to delve into all the things that bring you joy and inspire your spirit. Yes…you’re dealing with Saturn and Pluto, but you can still enjoy life and revel in all the things that make your life particularly joyous.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
Wear your heart on your sleeve and don’t be shy about expressing your emotions, even if some of those feelings are new or uncomfortable. While there is a risk that you might go too far and say something you might later regret, if you’re clear from the beginning that what you’re feeling is a process, it isn’t likely that you’ll step on too many toes or hurt your significant other.

Pisces February 19-March 20
It might be wise to contemplate the meaning of the ‘Fool” in the Tarot cards. It represents a powerful archetype that is neither foolish nor foolhardy, because it embodies an innocent trust in the idea that Spirit is always there to guide and protect. While that guidance and protection don’t guarantee any absence of harm or difficulty, when we live with a basic trust in life, life is just easier.
