Aquarium Age: January 2-8

By Ralfee Finn

Welcome to the first week of 2019—seven days that set the tone for the year that lies ahead. Pay attention to the particulars because they unfold like a mini preview, packed with information that if used wisely could also been seen as a good training course for handling the challenges of the coming year.

A solar eclipse on Saturday, January 5, occurs with five planets in Capricorn—the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Saturn and Pluto—a planetary concentration that captures the tone of the entire year, given that all year long we’re moving inexorably toward the Saturn/Pluto conjunction, in Capricorn, on January 12, 2020. During this week’s solar eclipse, as the Moon overshadows the Sun, there’s no mistaking the no-nonsense signature of Saturn, which is currently transiting Capricorn, the Sign it rules. Saturn signifies boundaries, limits, and structures of all kinds, theoretical and actual, and as it journeys through its Home Sign, its powers are amplified, which translates into a super-serious atmosphere about everything, especially governments, corporations, and other structures we rely on to create and maintain order.

During a solar eclipse, emotional concerns override practical ones, but because this eclipse happens in Capricorn, the most pragmatic Sign in the zodiac, unconscious concerns represented by the Moon and conscious concerns represented by the Sun are likely to be quite similar. It’s not likely this eclipse will be particularly unemotional; it’s just that Capricorn is all about reality. I can hear some readers thinking, “Reality…what’s that? Didn’t we leave reality behind us long ago?” Yes, but practical concerns, especially concerns about survival, can carry deep emotional overtones. What’s more, because an eclipse effect is often felt up to six weeks before or after the actual event, it’s possible to view the shutdown of the United States government as emblematic of this eclipse, as it affects both the practical aspects of governing and the emotional consequences the shutdown has set in motion.

But that’s not all: During the January 5, 2019 solar eclipse, Pluto occupies the same degree at which the January 10, 2020 solar eclipse occurs at—20º Capricorn—and that eclipse takes place two days before the exact conjunction of Saturn and Pluto. So pay attention to what gets triggered for you—it’s likely you won’t resolve it until the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020.

The most important rule of thumb for Saturday’s eclipse and its ongoing effect is to steer clear of rigid judgments that might get you stuck in an intolerant position from which there is no escape. I’m not suggesting you avoid awareness—observation is a key component of consciousness. I’m also not suggesting that you assume a passive, opinionless stance, which won’t be possible anyway. I’m simply advising you adopt a compassionate attitude, because a harsh finger-pointing attitude will only add to the difficulties and won’t help one bit in finding solutions.

Uranus goes direct on Sunday, January 6. Uranus symbolizes technology in all its various forms, and when it prepares for a “course correction,” all the devices that populate its vast domain act as if they have a life of their own, causing many to mistake techno-glitches for Mercury Retrograde interference. But just so we are clear, Mercury isn’t retrograde until March 5.

As Uranus moves forward it transits the final degrees of Aries, putting a planetary period at the end of a sentence that began in full force with the Fukushima tsunami of March 11, 2011. Uranus enters Taurus on March 6, 2019, a transit that lasts until 2025, and it is certain that the next several years will be filled with startling twists of fate, sponsored by Uranus, the astro revolutionary and its neverending mission to provoke, instigate, or catalyze change wherever it is needed. At its depths, Uranus’s journey through Taurus raises questions of what is valuable and why. Be prepared for a revolution that focuses on financial justice.

As you make your way through the week—and it is quite a week—envision yourself crossing a threshold into a different dimension. We’re entering a revolutionary universe—an era focused on the issues of social justice, not just in America but all around the world. Social justice is love at the collective level and because love is the fascia that holds everything together, we are required to expand our capacity to include everyone. Everyone—every person, plant, and species because Earth truly does hang in the balance. We’re moving closer to the United States Pluto Return in February of 2022—the American Revolution 2.0—and even though 2022 may seem light years away, in cosmic time it’s the blink of an eye.

Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
The solar eclipse illuminates details you were unaware of or didn’t realize needed attention. Make time to review the details of all your plans and projects already in motion and then do whatever is necessary to take care of those concerns. You’ll be able to handle each situation if you simply stay in your integrity—be honest about what you can actually accomplish.

Taurus April 20-May 20
The solar eclipse brings to light issues of belonging—not necessarily family issues, although they may play a role. This emphasis is about belonging to the world, specifically about how to find your true place within your sphere of experience so you can find your true voice. Some of what is revealed may be sad, but the rest of what you are shown is information you can work with to heal.

Gemini May 21-June 21
The solar eclipse can help you hone your practical magic skills. I’m not suggesting you start casting spells or attempt to manipulate the universe on the basis of desire. I’m simply pointing out that when you understand the connection between heart, mind, and intention, you’ll improve your efficiency at making the world a better place for everyone.

Cancer June 22-July 22
The solar eclipse emphasizes relationships of every denomination, personal or professional. So whether you are in the midst of a romantic comedy or tragedy, stuck in the complexity of a short- or long-term friendship, or dealing with family interactions that suck the air out of the room, do your best to figure out what brings you the most joy and then focus on relationships that feed that fire.

Leo July 23-August 22
The solar eclipse spotlights your hunger for relevant information that you can share with others in a sincere effort to be of service. I know you like being a counselor, and your innate generosity of heart makes you a good one, but it’s also important to make sure that the wisdom you are sharing truly supports the person you are trying to help.

Virgo August 23-September 22
The solar eclipse illuminates the need for humor as a perspective that allows you to tolerate difficult situations that you can’t really shift. It’s not that everything is funny or that you need to make everything a joke. If you can find a way to highlight the irony or just plain stupidity or silliness of an otherwise tense set of circumstances, you’ll open a channel for creative solutions.

Libra September 23-October 22
The solar eclipse highlights a greater need to find balance where you live—and that includes both your internal and external home. Take a few minutes to contemplate what’s out of balance and what would provide a practical solution to managing any extremes. The answer could be as simple as 20 minutes a day of meditation or a separate, quiet space for your creative endeavors.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
The solar eclipse focuses on communication so don’t be surprised if you find yourself talking a lot more than you usually do about a variety of subjects, some old and familiar and others new and maybe a tad uncomfortable. Wherever you find yourself along this spectrum of dialogue, you’re bound to find several relevant topics. So pay attention—you’re learning.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
The solar eclipse lights up the entire subject of values—money, self-esteem, self-confidence, and whatever else matters most to you. Embrace this process wholeheartedly and you might discover new things about yourself that were previously hidden from view. This isn’t trippin’ on anything negative; this is about knowing yourself at a new and deeper level.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
The solar eclipse turns your world upside down and invites you to take a new look at what once was because it is no more. Yes, I know that sounds extreme, but I’m thinking that if you tune into your emotional body, you’ll acknowledge that you are simultaneously scared and excited about what this might mean. Be brave and face the challenge of being in the world in an entirely new way.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
The solar eclipse sheds light on the power of imagination—your imagination—so get busy envisioning what it is you want to create. Just be aware that the power of creative visualization lies in your ability to feel your creation as if it is already a reality. So let nothing interfere with this process—not one negative thought or willingness to settle for something less.

Pisces February 19-March 20
The solar eclipse emphasizes participation in your community, so whatever that means, from volunteering to donating, figure out how you want to increase your role. You don’t have to give up your privacy (although you might want to) and you don’t have to live in ways that challenge your sensibilities. This is about seeing what’s missing in your communal structure and then doing your best to create a positive solution.
