Aquarium Age

The Aquarium Age: Jan. 31-Feb. 6

By Ralfee Finn

Before I get into this week’s column, which is all about being in the eclipse zone, I need to make it clear that eclipses are not good: no matter what you read online or in the paper, from an astrological perspective, an eclipse is not something you look forward to—unless you just want to watch it and be transfixed by its beauty. Synonyms for the verb eclipse are conceal, darken or obscure, so before you go celebrating the 31st’s rare super blood blue moon eclipse, think about what you’re actually celebrating. An unusual occurrence in the sky and lots of information about that event doesn’t necessarily mean it is a good omen. Our ancestors knew that eclipses happened on a predictable schedule, but they didn’t look forward to them—unless they needed to hide an army, its horses or its soldiers—or maybe knock off a king, a general, or a senator. Conversely, the shadow of an eclipse might reveal something an enemy could be hiding and that might give you an advantage.

And if I may go off on a pet peeve unrelated to Mr. Trump for just a moment: While the Internet has normalized astrology, the proliferation of astrology websites has created an insatiable need for content, a need that resembles the constant craving for content that turned cable news into a circus. You could even speculate that the constant craving for content has set the precedent that blows all sorts of things so far out of proportion that it grows increasingly difficult to know the true from the false. From now on when you’re reading this column, and you read eclipse, think about what’s hiding in the shadows, what’s being obscured, and how the actual event might bring previously hidden information to light.

This week we’re dealing with a lunar eclipse, when the Sun overshadows the Moon and practical concerns overshadow emotional issues, but because the Moon is eclipsed in Leo, this particular eclipse might be slightly more emotional and certainly a tad more dramatic than that reserved (albeit zany) Aquarian Sun might desire. It would be wise to anticipate meltdowns, yours or others’, as pent-up feelings just can’t help but defy this eclipse’s prime directive: Stick to the facts.

This lunar eclipse occurs on Mr. Trump’s natal Pluto, and because his natal Pluto sits in his 12th House of altered states of consciousness as well as hidden enemies, we’re all likely to be subjected to more than a view manic and mad tweets. It’s true that some altered states illuminate hidden enemies—as in You’re not paranoid, people actually are talking about you.” And altered states can also reveal hidden enemies, especially if your intuitive gifts are in a heightened state. Mr. Trump is likely to experience an increase in his untrammeled projections and accusations. And given that the influence of an eclipse event extends six weeks before and six weeks after the actual event, his recent behavior can be seen as an example of today’s lunar eclipse effect on his natal Pluto.

The solar eclipse on February 15 also affects Mr. Trump’s chart: It occurs exactly opposite his Mars and is quite close to an opposition to his Ascendant. This does not bode well for his temper or his persona. Mars signifies military might, and this eclipse could blow the lid off Mr. Trump’s petulant, irresponsible interactions with Kim Jung-un, especially because the solar eclipse will fuel Mr. Trump’s need to demonstrate his strength.

For the rest of us trying to live harmoniously in a chaotic world that daily challenges the need for intensified soul growth and greater consciousness, these two eclipses reprise themes that dominated the interactions of last summer, political but also personal. Some may experience the return of a spouse, lover or friend, while others may find that the commitment to a compromise made at that time won’t hold its water, making a breakup inevitable. Wherever you find yourself along this spectrum, consider how to handle these moments through a karma-neutral lens that allows you to participate without causing any additional harm.

As always, be kind to your fellow travelers—we are all in this process together, and the more we recognize our essential interconnectedness, the easier it is to extend kindness and compassion to each other. And remember that even though eclipses are a regular occurrence, they alter that regular order—a solar eclipse turns day into night, which means that over the next few weeks we can expect even more irregular events.

Sun Bursts: If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April 19
While both eclipses, lunar and solar, focus on how to share your creative gifts with the world, the lunar eclipse could require you to expend slightly more effort to make sure your talents are recognized and appreciated. Rather than resent this process, embrace it—even welcome it—because it also requires you to own your power in a wholesome, balanced way.

Taurus April 20-May 20
The lunar eclipse today could create a crisis between your desire to devote yourself to professional endeavors and your hunger for a home that truly expresses what you need to feel safe and secure. This may not sound like a conflict, but if you are completely honest with yourself about what you truly desire, you might find you have to make some hard choices.

Gemini May 21-June 21
Today’s lunar eclipse focuses on conversation with significant others, so please be careful about how you want to handle certain ‘touchy’ subjects. I’m not suggesting you hold back—do tell the truth—but I am advising you to choose your words wisely. Words, as we all know, can be easily misunderstood, especially if we are trying to obscure our true intent. Be precise as well as kind, and nothing will come back to haunt you.

Cancer June 22-July 22
The lunar eclipse is likely to focus on money matters, especially financial issues that are seemingly out of your control. Just remember, even when someone else is calling the shots, you still can have agency. You are not powerless—no one is—because no one can tell you what to think or what your attitude should be. Hold your own, and remember to stand tall for your values.

Leo July 23-August 22
These eclipses are all about relationship—how to maintain your balance with significant others, personal and professional, as well as how to establish an internal equilibrium that enables you to support and encourage those you love without abandoning yourself in the process. This is no easy feat, but it can be done if you do your best to observe where you’re currently out of balance—and do something about it.

Virgo August 23-September 22
You’re likely to feel as if you are in your own private universe—a state of mind that can go either way: You can feel isolated and alone, or you can use this as an internal expedition to gather more information about who you are and what you need to create greater health. And try not to limit that wellness to just the physical world—consider greater mental, spiritual and emotional health.

Libra September 23-October 22
The lunar eclipse focuses on romance, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself falling in love with everyone you meet…for at least 5 minutes. There’s nothing wrong with being interested and engaged with all the people you come in contact with. It’s just not necessary to act on that fascination immediately. Take a little time to get comfortable with all that passion.

Scorpio October 23-November 21
Use this lunar eclipse to illuminate how you can achieve greater recognition doing what you love. You don’t have to give up your day job and jump feet first into an entirely new universe, but you could spend some time figuring out how to find a more satisfying way to spend your time and energy—one that appeals to the deepest parts of you, so that when you move forward, you do so fully engaged.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21
Try not to let difficult conversations catalyze a crisis of faith—and I’m not just talking about religious faith. This lunar eclipse could instigate a lot of questions about how to recognize the difference between what’s true for you and what’s true for others. The bad news is that differing opinions could cause conflict. The good news is that a wide range of different perspectives can provide valuable insight and information.

Capricorn December 22-January 19
The lunar eclipse could reveal where you need to pay closer attention to money matters—and if that’s how it manifests, pay attention and use the information wisely. It could also stimulate a crisis of values: what matters most to you versus what matters most to others. In either case, if there are hidden agendas, the eclipse could reveal potent unconscious motivations.

Aquarius January 20-February 18
Of course it’s a relationship issue—how could it not be? But it is not every relationship you have. So rather than worry about losing the one you love, look around and see what relationships need your attention, and then focus your energy on improving partnerships you might be unconsciously neglecting. There’s nothing to worry about—this is simply an opportunity to improve all your relationships.

Pisces February 19-March 20
The eclipses stimulate an internal process that could yield beneficial results if you’re willing to permit some personal information to be revealed. I know you don’t like to play all your cards at once and that you need secrecy to feel safe, but all that being said, sometimes opening up, especially to yourself, is the best way to shift the energy and grow.
