Red Rock Rondo CD Release Celebration Concert, A Secret Gift

Saturday, September 15, 2012, 07:30pm - 09:30pm

Red Rock Rondo will perform a CD-release concert for their new recording: “Red Rock Rondo Live at the Symphony: A Secret Gift.” The concert is presented by Brolly Arts and produced by MUSIC-in-the-BOX. A Secret Gift is a new Americana song cycle inspired by recently-found letters from the Great Depression. They were written in response to an anonymous giftgiver on Christmas Eve, 1933. Lives were changed by the generous offer of a helping hand. The story of these letters is told in the bestselling book by Ted Gup, A Secret Gift (Penguin Press 2010). Red Rock Rondo is an Emmy Award-winning chamber folk ensemble consisting of six of Utah’s best-known acoustic musicians: composer Phillip Bimstein, Kate MacLeod, Hal Cannon, Charlotte Bell, Flavia Cerviño-Wood, and Harold Carr. They perform on piano, guitars, violins, oboe, English horn, concertina, harmonica, bass, and vocals. Their music is a well-crafted synergy of folk, jazz, and classical, woven into a truly original Americana style. The song cycle begins with an instrumental meditation on generosity and compassion, “Secret Prelude.” Immediately following, “Silent Snow” tells the moving story of how cash gifts were given anonymously to a wide range of people in great need. Other songs include the wild romps, “Dandelions” and “The Last Marathon Dance;” a sweet portrayal of a sign of hope high on a hill, “Hello Bill;” a celtic-inflected ode to courageous Britons during World War II, “Fifty Overcoats;” and a loving reflection on family and the life of a grandfather, “Four Stones.” The September 15th Red Rock Rondo Live at the Symphony, “A Secret Gift" CD-Release Concert is proudly presented by Brolly arts and produced by MUSIC-in-the-BOX.
